The condition of the Spleen manifests in the muscles, and it governs the transformation and transportation of food and fluids (Shuigu). The essence derived from food and fluids transforms into Qi and Blood, thereby forming Ying and Wei (Defensive) Qi to nourish the Zang-Fu organs. If the Spleen and Stomach are weak and deficient, and pathogenic factors invade, Qi will rebel upward causing abdominal distension, food and fluids will fail to digest, leading to vomiting.
