Conditions of Ge Qi (obstruction in the chest/diaphragm area) and undigested food retention are caused by cold pathogenic factors lingering between the Spleen and Stomach, preventing the digestion of grains. This is primarily due to the weakness of the Spleen organ, which fails to transform and transport food; consequently, food remains stagnant after overnight.
For treating Ge Qi: If there is long-standing cold in the Spleen and Stomach, undigested food retention, with symptoms of empty distension in the heart and abdomen, and emaciation/weakness of the four limbs, it is appropriate to take Nongpo San (Magnolia Bark Powder).
Ingredients: Houpu (Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis, 1 liang, remove coarse bark, apply fresh ginger juice, roast until fragrant and cooked); Chenxiang (Lignum Aquilariae Resinatum, 3 fen); Qingjupi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae Viride, 0.5 liang, soak in hot water, remove white pith, dry-roast); Binglang (Semen Arecae, 0.5 fen, crush); Caodoukou (Fructus Cardamomi Rotundus, 1 liang, remove seed coat).
Process these ingredients by crushing and sieving into a powder. Take 4 qian per dose. Add 1 zhong zhan (approx. 200-300ml) of water, 0.5 fen of fresh ginger, and 3 dates. Decoct until 6 fen of liquid remains. Strain the dregs. Take at any time.
