The condition of Huoluan (acute gastrointestinal disorder) accompanied by dry retching arises from extreme deficiency of the Spleen and Stomach due to vomiting and diarrhea. The Qi mechanism of the Sanjiao (Triple Burner) fails to regulate, causing Qi stagnation and palpitation in the heart region. The descending Qi rebels upward, resulting in dry retching without anything being expelled.
To treat Huoluan with deficient Stomach Qi and persistent dry retching, use Baizhu San (Atractylodes Macrocephala Powder):
Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 1 liang), Huoxiang (Pogostemonis Herba, 1 liang), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang, remove the radicle), Pipaye (Eriobotryae Folium, 0.5 liang, wipe off hairs and stir-fry until slightly yellow), Gaoliangjiang (Alpiniae Officinarum Rhizoma, 0.5 liang).
Crush and sieve the above herbs into a powder. Take 3 qian per dose. Add 1 zhong of water, 0.5 fen of fresh ginger, and 3 jujubes. Decoct until 6 fen remains, then strain. Take warm at any time.
Another prescription:
Xiebai (Allii Macrostemi Bulbus, 1 bundle), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang, remove the radicle), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 1 liang), Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, 1 liang, remove coarse bark, coat with fresh ginger juice, and stir-fry until fragrant and cooked).
Finely chop and mix the above herbs evenly. Take 0.5 liang per dose. Add 1 zhong of water, 0.5 fen of fresh ginger, and 3 jujubes. Decoct until 6 fen remains, then strain. Take warm at any time.
Yet another prescription:
Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos, 1 fen), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 1 fen, remove the radicle).
Crush and sieve the above herbs finely into a powder. Divide into two doses. For each dose, add 3 he of cow's milk, boil for three to five boils, and take warm together with the dregs. Repeat after walking for the distance covered in five li.
Yet another prescription:
Shengjiangzhi (Zingiberis Recens Juice, 0.5 he), Niurou (Cow's Milk, 1 he).
Boil the above two ingredients for one or two boils. Take frequently in small amounts.
Yet another prescription:
Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus, 0.5 liang, soak in hot water seven times, bake dry, and stir-fry slightly), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, 0.5 liang, process until cracked and chop), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 2 liang, remove the radicle).
Crush and sieve the above herbs coarsely into a powder. Take 3 qian per dose. Add 1 zhong of water, decoct until 7 fen remains, then strain. Take warm at any time.
