Take one set of tiger lumbar vertebral bones, finely chop them first, then crush them with an axe on a stone. Additionally, take the two complete front legs, and crush them finely as described above. Place these two items on an iron rack and roast evenly over a large charcoal fire, turning them frequently. When the fat oozes out, submerge them in rich, fine, unadulterated wine and seal tightly. Soak for seven days and nights in spring and summer, and for twenty-one days (three periods of seven days) in autumn and winter. Drink daily on an empty stomach; drink more if your constitution allows, less otherwise. Warm three doses before meals. Wealthy individuals should limit intake to six or seven dou [a unit of volume]. Ordinary people should limit intake to two dou. For those suffering for ten years or more, no more than three doses are needed; for those suffering for seven years or less, one dose is sufficient, and the disease will surely be cured. Observe dietary restrictions as per general medicinal guidelines. Another method: use tiger tibial bones six to seven cun long, scrape clean, remove membranes, coat with butter, and roast until extremely yellow and cooked through. Finely grind, place in a silk bag, add one dou of wine, put the bag into a porcelain jar, then gently simmer and steep using chaff fire for seven days. Drink at will thereafter; the disease will heal when mild diarrhea occurs.
