115. Yihuang San (Benefiting Yellow Powder). It treats vomiting caused by stomach cold and diarrhea due to spleen deficiency in children. It is also indicated for cases where a child suffering from chuangzhen (exanthematous diseases such as smallpox or measles) becomes irritable and thirsty, drinks excessively, and overconsumes cold substances, thereby suddenly injuring the spleen and stomach, resulting in acute vomiting or diarrhea; this formula is suitable for all such conditions.
Ziding (Clove), Hezi (Chebula Fruit, baked), Qingpi (Green Tangerine Peel, removing the inner white layer), Chenpi (Aged Tangerine Peel, removing the white pith), Muxiang (Costus Root) (each 1 fen).
Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Take half a cup of water and one qian of the powder, decoct together until three parts remain. Strain and take warm at any time.
116. Shenzhu Wan (Ginseng and Atractylodes Pill). It treats children with spleen and stomach injured by cold, presenting with external heat and internal cold, anorexia, persistent high fever, and loose stools that are pale in color. It is also indicated for chuangzhen patients with high body heat who have consumed cold food or taken excessive cold medicines, leading to diarrhea or abdominal distension. Furthermore, it treats cases where chuangzhen has erupted but the lesions are pale and lack blood color, which is caused by internal cold and latent cold in the spleen and stomach, obstructing the circulation of Ying and Wei (nutritive and defensive qi), causing toxic factors to remain trapped inside. This formula is suitable for such conditions. In cases where the lesions are pale and lack blood color, they will typically recover after red halos reappear around the pale areas, followed by suppuration and scabbing.
Renshen (Ginseng Root), Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), Ganjiang (Dried Ginger, processed), Gancao (Licorice Root, honey-fried) (each 1 fen).
Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Use rice cake paste as a binder to form pills the size of hemp seeds. Take more than one hundred pills per dose, swallowed with warm water or rice drink, preferably before feeding with milk or food. Ancient texts, such as Zhang Zhongjing's treatises on treating Shanghan (Cold Damage), state: for mild cases, use Lizhong Tang; for severe cases, use Sini Tang. These conditions involve the Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian contracting cold pathogens. The spleen and stomach are the central fu organs. Regarding the harmonizing use of Lizhong Tang, it is said: "Pungent and sweet flavors disperse yang, thereby dispelling cold pathogens." Lizhong Wan is made by refining honey into pills to be chewed, implying that the sweetness of honey enters the spleen and stomach, and chewing facilitates rapid digestion in the middle jiao. The current Shenzhu Wan uses Jingmi (Japonica Rice) cake for pill formation, taking advantage of its slow digestibility. Upon ingestion, it stays in the spleen and stomach, slowly permeating and being digested, thereby warming the middle jiao. Since the spleen earth prefers dryness and warmth, the heat naturally returns to its proper place, which explains why this formula can treat heat conditions.
117. Erhe San (Two-Harmonies Powder). It treats chuangzhen, as well as disharmony of cold and heat due to injury by cold or heat, yin-yang stagnation and fullness, and impaired ascending and descending of qi. Taking this formula harmonizes Ying and Wei, regulates qi movement, balances cold and heat, promotes digestion, and moves qi.
Huoxiangye (Agastache Leaf), Xiangfuzi (Cyperi Rhizome, stir-baked and de-haired).
Grind the above ingredients equally into a fine powder. Take one zi (a traditional unit of weight/volume) per dose, mixed with warm water, at any time.
118. Liushen San (Six-Gods Powder). It treats spleen and stomach weakness, dry and scanty body fluids, internal deficiency leading to anorexia, and deficient heat manifesting in the body.
Renshen (Ginseng Root), Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), Fuling (Poria), Gancao (Licorice Root, honey-fried), Baibiandou (White Hyacinth Bean, stir-baked), Huangqi (Astragalus Root, honey-fried).
Grind the above ingredients equally into a fine powder. Take two qian per dose, with half a cup of water, one slice of fresh ginger, and one jujube. Decoct until one-third remains, strain, and take warm at any time. If the body heat is severe, add a small amount of Wumei (Mume Fruit) and decoct together.
119. Zhizhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction). It treats chuangdou (smallpox/chickenpox) when heat and thirst begin, prompting desire to drink, whether drinking cold water or eating cold food. Although the body may feel hot, there is internal cold, accompanied by anorexia, vomiting, and diarrhea; this formula is suitable.
Renshen (Ginseng Root), Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), Ganjiang (Dried Ginger, processed), Gancao (Licorice Root, honey-fried), Qingpi (Green Tangerine Peel), Chenpi (Aged Tangerine Peel, removing the white pith).
Grind the above ingredients equally into a fine powder. Take one qian per dose, with half a cup of water, decoct until one-third remains, strain, and take warm at any time. Adjust the dose according to the patient's age and size.
120. Weifeng Tang (Stomach-Wind Decoction) (See Ji Xiao Fang for syndrome description and prescription).
121. Ganjiang Gancao Tang (Dried Ginger and Licorice Decoction). It treats chuangzhen patients who have taken excessive cold medicines, resulting in cough, cold hands and feet, slow pulse, spontaneous diarrhea, vomiting, and anorexia.
Ganjiang (Dried Ginger, processed), Gancao (Licorice Root, honey-fried) (each 4 qian).
Cut the ingredients into pieces to make a powder. Add one sheng and two he of water, decoct until four he remain, strain, and take warm.
122. Wei'ai San (Stomach-Love Powder). It regulates vomiting and diarrhea in children due to spleen and stomach dysfunction. If banchuang (maculopapular rash) has not yet erupted, and physicians fail to recognize its morphology and syndrome, mistakenly using cold medicines to freeze the rash so it cannot emerge, this Wei'ai San should be used for regulation. If the body sweats, there is no need to use Kongxin San (Control Heart Powder) to induce sweating; if there is no sweat, use Kongxin San to induce sweating, followed by Qianghuo San and Wei'ai San.
Nuomi (Glutinous Rice, 1 liang), Gandon Mugua (Dried Quince, 3 qian), Gancao (Licorice Root, 1 qian), Dingxiang (Cloves, 16 pieces, stir-fried together), Huoxiangye (Agastache Leaf), Zisuye (Perilla Leaf) (each 1 qian).
Place all ingredients together, dry, and grind into a fine powder. Take one qian or five fen per dose, washed down with millet and jujube decoction.
123. Yunqi Tang (Harmonize-Qi Decoction). Used for post-illness regulation after clearing residual toxins from chuangzhen.
Jiegeng (Platycodon Root, washed and dried, 5 liang), Gancao (Licorice Root, honey-fried, 2 liang), Bai Ganjiang (White Dried Ginger, 1 qian), Suosha (Cardamom), Chenpi (Aged Tangerine Peel, removing the white pith), Huixiang (Fennel Seed) (each 1 liang, washed).
Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Take half a qian or one qian per dose, taken with decoction of frost-down Mugua (Quince), or sent down with Perilla salt decoction.
124. Doulu San (Bean-Milk Powder). It treats children during chuangzhen who experience occasional continuous slippery diarrhea; it is suitable for severe cases.
Roududou (Nutmeg, one piece), Ruxiang (Frankincense, size of a bean).
Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder, taken with rice drink.
125. Jiangfu Tang (Ginger and Aconite Decoction). It treats chuangzhen where some lesions have erupted while others have not, or where diarrhea occurs during the peak eruption phase, accompanied by cold extremities, vomiting, belching, and abdominal distension. One must urgently administer Lizhong Wan, Sini Jiangfu Tang, or similar formulas without hesitation, as these have been tested and proven effective. If there is spontaneous diarrhea and abdominal distension, it indicates that heat toxins are restrained by cold and cannot erupt; severe cold causes diarrhea, while slight emergence of toxins causes abdominal distension. In such cases, administer Lizhong Wan, Sini Jiangfu Tang, etc. When the interior warms up, diarrhea stops; when heat toxins can re-emerge, abdominal distension resolves, and chuangzhen erupts spontaneously. There are also cases where chuangzhen is partially erupted and partially not, or where constipation occurs during peak eruption, accompanied by dark, scanty urine, panting, coarse breathing, abdominal distension, dry lips and teeth, oral irritability, thirst with desire to drink, and delirium. In these cases, urgent purgation is required. This syndrome involves toxic factors stagnating and accumulating; because they want to erupt but cannot find a clear path, abdominal distension results. Purging dissipates the heat toxins, restores Ying and Wei circulation, eliminates internal distension, and allows external chuangzhen to erupt. Both warming and purging methods are appropriate when applied correctly, and thus must be recorded. If pus and blood are passed with abdominal distension, it is a different syndrome, and Nanjin San, Ruxiang Zhu Xue Gao (Frankincense and Pig Blood Paste), Lizhong Wan, and Jiangfu Tang should be administered. See Han Men for prescriptions; see Shanghan Men for Sini Tang.
126. Qizhen San (Seven-Treasures Powder). It regulates stomach qi to promote appetite and nourishes Ying and Wei.
Renshen (Ginseng Root), Fuling (Poria), Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), Shanyao (Chinese Yam), Huangqi (Astragalus Root, honey-fried), Gancao (Licorice Root, honey-fried), Baibiandou (White Hyacinth Bean, stir-baked).
Grind the above ingredients equally into a fine powder. Take two qian per dose, with one cup of water, three slices of fresh ginger, and one jujube. Decoct until one-sixth remains, take the dregs and liquid warm at any time. Adding millet makes it "Bazhen San" (Eight-Treasures Powder). This medicine greatly promotes appetite. At that time, people suffered from anorexia, and various other medicines were ineffective. After using this medicine for a few days, dietary intake increased significantly. The spleen earth resides in the center; neither excessive dryness nor excessive warmth is suitable. Only by maintaining balance can water ascend and fire descend, as the spleen favors the taste of grains.
127. Xiebai Tang (Allium Macropodum Decoction). It treats chuangzhen-induced diarrhea with yellow-red pus and blood, accompanied by body heat.
Xiebai (Allium Macropodum Bulb, sliced, half a cup), Douchi (Fermented Soybeans, one cup), Shanzhizi (Gardenia Fruit, ten pieces).
Add five cups of water and decoct the Xiebai until soft. Strain and take according to the patient's age/size to resolve evil accumulation.
