The physical form is generated by Heaven and Earth, nurtured by parents, formed by inheriting the Qi of the Five Elements (Wu Xing), and born through sensing the changes of Yin and Yang. Before receiving this body, the form was already inherently present; thus, form and life-nature (Xing-Ming) are mutually dependent and interactive, acquired through their resonance. However, since the form now belongs to us, why is refinement necessary? The female constitution originally belongs to Yin turbidity, unlike the male constitution, which truly embodies Yang rigidity. If not tempered and refined, blood cannot be transformed into Qi. How then can one conceive the Pre-Heaven Qi or produce True Qi? Without obtaining True Qi, one remains a purely Yin entity, making it impossible to restore the Returning Elixir (Huan Dan) or achieve the Great Dao. Therefore, the female form must first undergo refinement before any progress can be made.
Refining the form refers to regulation and nurturing. Blood belongs to Yin; it is heavy, turbid, and coagulated. It resides in the lower jiao, stored in the Sea of Blood (Chong Mai/Uterus), transforms within the five zang-fu organs, irrigates the whole body, nourishes the hundred vessels, and circulates endlessly. Excess fluid flows through the meridians, becoming dregs that are excreted and no longer used. Only after two hundred and forty ke (ancient time units representing a full cycle) and thirty shichen (a full day-night cycle) have passed does the essence melt and reappear as dew. The Pre-Heaven Qi transforms the form, remaining for the use of human life. This is what is meant by: clear Qi rises upward to become milk; turbid Qi flows downward to become stasis. The distinction between human life and immortality lies precisely here. Thus, in female cultivation, one must first clearly distinguish between clear and turbid substances to nurture the true form.
How is the form refined? During sitting meditation, utilize the spirit's mechanism to move internally. Wait until the mouth is filled with saliva, rinse gently several times until it becomes clear and澄澈 (pure). Then, inhale clear Qi through the nose, swallowing it together with the jade liquid (saliva) down the Chonglou (trachea), entering the Heart Residence (heart region), descending to the Yellow Chamber (middle dantian/spleen-stomach area), stopping at Guanyuan (CV4) and the Sea of Blood (lower dantian/uterus). Allow it to condense slightly, then transport it from the Sea of Blood to the Tailbone (Weilü, GV1), ascend up the Spine (Jiaji, BL12-25), penetrate the Crown (Dingmen/Baihui, GV20) directly into the Niwan Palace (upper dantian/brain). From the Niwan Palace, descend again, stopping between the two breasts. Let it accumulate for a long time, transforming saliva into Qi. This constitutes one turn (Zhuan).
Perform this three times. After the three turns are completed, use both hands to massage the two breasts, rotating around thirty acupoints. Upon completion, cup both hands toward the center, gently transporting the energy to the Sea of Blood and stopping. Then, repeat the previous circulation method once more. Three turns and three cycles result in the total of Nine Turns Refining the Form (Jiu Zhuan Lian Xing).
If a woman is profound, solemn, with deep roots and a robust vessel, practicing this for no more than one hundred days will suffice for her form to be refined, paving the way for longevity. From there, advancing further, the Great Elixir (Da Dan) can be anticipated. It is pitiful that women confined to the inner chambers, beautiful ladies, do not have the opportunity to witness the orthodox transmission and cultivate the supreme, authentic Dao. I advise future generations of women to seek instruction from a master early on, so that we may collectively attain Bodhi (Enlightenment).
