Danxi stated: Difficult labor in the world often occurs in people who are depressed and live in leisure, specifically those raised in wealthy families. This is not seen among the poor and hardworking. Ancient medical texts only contain a discussion on "Shoutai Yin" (Fetus-Thinning Decoction), which was formulated for Princess Huyang; however, it is not the most comprehensive theory. Why? Because I have observed that even when this formula is used, difficult labor persists. My cousin suffered greatly from difficult labor; upon becoming pregnant again, she sought to terminate the pregnancy, which deeply pitied me. Observing her lifestyle, she was diligent in needlework. After pondering for ten days, I suddenly realized: this situation is exactly opposite to that of Princess Huyang. Those with luxurious lifestyles must have abundant Qi (vital energy); by耗 (consuming/reducing) their Qi to bring it to balance, birth becomes easy. Now, this woman is obese, indicating Qi deficiency. Prolonged sitting causes Qi stagnation, further weakening the Qi. The fetus in the womb relies on the mother's Qi to move; therefore, we should tonify the mother's Qi, making the fetus robust and facilitating easier delivery. Instructed her to report back at five or six months of pregnancy, I prescribed the complete Zisu Yin (Perilla Decoction) with added Qi-tonifying herbs. After taking dozens of doses, she successfully delivered a healthy boy with great ease. Thus, based on this formula, I adjusted it according to the mother's physique, complexion, temperament, and seasonal changes, resulting in universal efficacy. Hence, I named this formula Dasheng San (Life-Reaching Powder).
