Postpartum wind-stroke with spasm of the sinews and vessels is caused by deficiency of Qi and Blood, and deficiency of the Zang-Fu organs. Premature overexertion before the end of the puerperal period damages the Zang-Fu organs; when the deficiency has not yet recovered, pathogenic Wind-Cold initially invades the skin and meridians. This leads to numbness and insensitivity, emaciation, fatigue, and shortness of breath. When Wind enters the sinews and vessels and combines with Cold, it causes spasms.
