Soybean (Wu Sheng, stir-fried until smoke emerges)
Pour Yi Sheng of wine into it, cover tightly to keep it warm, remove the beans, and take Yi Sheng. Take in divided doses throughout the day and night. Lie down to induce a slight sweat, and avoid wind. (Adding Qianghuo is also effective.)
The *Guangji Fang* treats lower back pain occurring three days postpartum, residual blood remaining in the abdomen, pain in the hands and feet, and loss of appetite. Formula for Shengdihuang Tang:
Shengdihuang Zhi (Juice of Rehmanniae Radix Recens, Yi Sheng) Shaoyao (Radix Paeoniae Rubra or Radix Paeoniae Alba), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis, two Liang each) Danshen (Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae, four Liang) Fengmi (Honey, Yi He) Shengjiang Zhi (Ginger Juice, Ban He)
Cut the herbs, add San Sheng of water, decoct to obtain Yi Sheng of liquid, and filter out the dregs. Add Shengdihuang Zhi, Fengmi, and Shengjiang Zhi, and boil gently for one or two boils. Take San Ge per dose, twice during the day and three times at night. After having one or two bowel movements, food may be taken in between, and then resume medication. Chen's Rushen Tang is also effective. (See Volume IV, Treatise VII).
The raw material Wujisan plus Taoren decoction is also excellent. This formula expels stagnant blood and dispels wind-dampness.
Postpartum lochia should flow normally but suddenly decreases gradually or stops completely. There is heavy pain in the waist, radiating downward to both thighs, with stabbing pain penetrating into the bones as if by awls or knives.
This is due to blood stagnation in the meridians. If not unblocked immediately, severe pain will likely lead to carbuncles and sores. Tao Ren Tang is indicated. To prevent the formation of carbuncles, Wuxiang Lianqiao Tang may be taken prophylactically.
Taoren (Peach Kernel, skin and tip removed) Sumu (Lignum Sappan) Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Recens, half Liang each) Mengchong (Blatta Orientalis, legs and wings removed, stir-fried) Shuizhi (Hirudo, stir-fried, thirty each)
Grind into coarse powder. Take San Qian per dose. Add Yi Zhan of water, decoct to Liu Fen, filter, and take warm at any time. Stop taking when lochia flows.
(Another prescription includes Dahuang, Yi Liang).
Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix) Chenxiang (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum) Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos) Ruxiang (Olibanum) Shexiang (Moschus) Shengma ( Cimicifugae Rhizoma) Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix) Sangjisheng (Taxilli Herba) Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus) Mutong (Akebiae Caulis, two Liang each)
Grind into coarse powder. Take Wu Qian per dose. Add Er Zhan of water, decoct to Yi Zhan, add a small amount of Zhuli (Bamboo Sap), stir, let settle, filter, and take warm.
The condition of persistent postpartum lochia (Choulu Bujue) arises from injury to the menstrual blood after childbirth, leading to deficiency and insufficiency. Or, during delivery, evil blood remains incomplete and stays in the abdomen. Combined with cold pathogens harbored in the zang-fu organs, this causes disharmony of qi and blood, resulting in continuous dripping of lochia.
