Treats pregnant women suffering from seasonal epidemics; when high fever is severe after six or seven days, and both urination and defecation are obstructed, this formula is most suitable.
Chuan Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas, 1 liang, finely ground) Kuizi (Abelmoschi Semen, 3 liang, pounded)
Prepare and administer as previously described; efficacy is indicated by the resolution of obstruction in bowel movements.
Baidu San (Decoction for Resolving Toxins) and Shengma Gegen Tang (Kudzu Root and Cimicifuga Decoction) are also applicable. (When using Gegen, dried cultivated Kudzu Root should be used; wild Kudzu Root may disturb fetal Qi. This is discussed in detail in Yangsheng Biyong Fang.)
Discussion: In winter, severe cold invades the body and lodges in the muscles and bones. It remains dormant until the Summer Solstice, when it erupts as intense fever, known as "Shu Bing" (Summerheat Disease), which is synonymous with "Re Bing" (Heat Disease). This condition arises from the accumulation of cold pathogenic factors within the body. If a pregnant woman contracts this, it often leads to miscarriage. The Classics state that Heat Disease resembles Summerheat Stroke. However, in Heat Disease, the pulse is full and forceful, whereas in Summerheat Stroke, the pulse is deficient and weak.
Treats Heat Disease during pregnancy, characterized by intense fever, headache, incessant vomiting, inability to eat, and mental restlessness with chest discomfort. Use Congbai Lugen Tang (Scallion White and Reed Rhizome Decoction).
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, absent in some versions) Zhuru (Bambusae Caulis in Taenia, 1 liang each) Jiagen (Puerariae Radix Cultivata, 1 liang each) Lugen (Phragmitis Rhizoma, 2 liang) Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Radix, heart removed, 1.5 liang) Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 0.3 liang)
Cut the herbs into small pieces. For each dose, take 4 qian. Add one sheng of water and three cun of scallion white with roots. Decoct until the volume reduces to 0.7 sheng, strain, and take warm.
Treats Heat Disease during pregnancy, presenting with black macules appearing on the skin, urine resembling blood, rapid breathing nearing suffocation, and a sensation of the fetus falling.
Zhiziren (Gardeniae Semen, 3 liang each) Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 3 liang each) Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, 3 liang each) Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata, 3 liang each) Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, 1 liang each) Daqing (Isatidis Folium, 1 liang each)
Cut the herbs into small pieces. For each dose, take 0.5 liang. Add seven cun of scallion white and forty-nine grains of Chidou (Sojae Semen Praeparatum). Decoct in one sheng of water until the volume reduces to 0.5 sheng, strain, and take warm at any time. Jiuji Fang includes Xingren but excludes Dihuang and Shigao.
Treats Heat Disease during pregnancy, where heat enters the abdomen after six or seven days, causing constipation and difficult urination, along with irritability and fever.
Chuan Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, lightly stir-fried, 1 liang each) Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, 1 liang each) Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 0.3 liang each) Qianhu (Peucedani Radix, 0.3 liang each) Chi Fuling (Poria Cocos with Red Skin, 0.3 liang each) Zhiziren (Gardeniae Semen, 0.5 liang each) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 0.5 liang each) Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, 0.5 liang each)
Cut the herbs into small pieces. For each dose, take 0.5 liang. Add one large sheng of water and one fen of Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix). Decoct until the volume reduces to 0.6 sheng, strain, and take warm at any time.
Another prescription: Finely grind Fulonggan (Dragon's House Earth), mix with water, and take 1 qian at any time. (It can also be mixed into a paste and applied externally to the area below the umbilicus.)
Another prescription: Decoct Jiagen (Puerariae Radix Cultivata) in water and take one small sheng at any time.
