Mr. Zhu stated: "This medicine greatly treats swelling and pain of Heart Qi, showing immediate effect." I once used this medicine to treat edema, achieving an instant cure. Lady Chen suffered from severe pain due to blood and Qi disturbance, which was unbearable, and other medicines were ineffective. Upon examining her, I found both Guan pulses deep and weak, and the Liver pulse deep and slightly tight, indicating that blood and Qi were gradually forming a mass (Pi). She was cured using only these two components. The lady-in-waiting in the backyard of Magistrate Ma from Siming also suffered from this condition and was cured using these two components.
Lady Luo experienced unbearable pain in the umbilical region and lower abdomen whenever her menstruation occurred. Other medicines were ineffective. I cured her using Guizhi Taoren Tang (Cinnamon Twig and Peach Kernel Decoction). Subsequent recurrences were resolved with a single dose. Guizhi Taoren Tang. (Formula see Volume 1, Discourse 12)
Treats abdominal pain occurring before the onset of menstruation. (Added by Nan De) Swallow Laifu Dan (Reviving Pill) with Qi Qi Tang (Seven Qi Decoction) from the Bureau Formulary.
Regarding the disease of hernia and masses (Shanjia) in women, it arises from irregular diet, imbalance of cold and warmth, labor and injury to Qi and Blood, weakness of the Zang-Fu organs, and invasion by wind-cold. When cold enters the abdomen and binds with blood, it generates this condition. "Shan" refers to pain; "Jia" refers to something false or temporary. The accumulation floats and appears false, causing pain, and moves when pushed. Women's diseases differ from men's; some arise from blood deficiency and cold invasion after childbirth; others result from excessive exposure to cold during menstruation. It is not solely due to dietary irregularities but often involves complications from Qi and Blood disorders. In diagnosing Shanjia in women, a wiry and tense pulse indicates survival, while a weak and small pulse indicates death. Additionally, a choppy Chi pulse resembling floating firmness indicates excess Blood and deficient Qi. The onset of abdominal pain with rebellious Qi moving upward indicates injury to the uterus with retained evil blood, which eventually forms a mass (Jia) over time.
To treat Shanjia in women that persists without resolving, leading to sallow complexion, emaciation, distension and oppression in the hypochondrium, and pain in the heart and abdomen, use Ganxi San (Dry Lacquer Powder).
