Ganmai Dazao Tang (Licorice, Wheat, and Jujube Decoction)
Visceral Restlessness (Zang Zao) presents with spontaneous sorrow and weeping without cause, resembling possession by spirits. This formula consists of Gancao (Licorice Root), Xiaomai (Wheat), and Dazao (Jujube Fruit), originating from the *Jin Gui Yao Lue* (Essential Prescriptions from the Golden Cabinet), with extraordinary efficacy.
[Note] When a pregnant woman experiences frequent sorrow and grief without apparent reason, appearing as if possessed by spirits, this condition is named Visceral Restlessness (Zang Zao). It is appropriate to administer Ganmai Dazao Tang from the *Jin Gui Yao Lue*. The formula comprises only three ingredients: Gancao (Licorice Root), Xiaomai (Wheat), and Dazao (Jujube Fruit), decocted in water for oral administration, demonstrating remarkable efficacy.
Evil Thoughts and Emotional Stagnation Generate Ghost Fetus
Ghost Fetus arises from pathological thoughts and emotional influences; the abdomen enlarges resembling pregnancy. This is not due to supernatural intercourse but results from the coagulation of Qi and Blood within the body.
[Note] "Ghost Fetus" refers to a condition caused by unfulfilled desires and emotional resonance, leading to the stagnation and coagulation of Qi and Blood, causing the abdomen to gradually enlarge like that of a pregnant woman. Ancient texts claim actual supernatural intercourse occurs, but such assertions appear baseless. The conditions of Shi Xia (Stone Lei) and Chang Qun (Intestinal Polyp) in women also present with abdominal enlargement resembling pregnancy, both resulting from Qi and Blood coagulation; thus, it can be deduced that supernatural intercourse is impossible.
Xiang Leng Wan (Fragrant Triangular Pill)
Chang Qun and Shi Xia are differentiated by their involvement of Qi and Blood. Cold pathogens lodge outside the intestines or at the Zi Men (Cervical Os). Both conditions present with abdominal enlargement resembling pregnancy; differentiation lies in whether menstruation occurs regularly. Wu Zhu Yu Tang (Evodia Decoction) is most effective for Shi Xia, while Xiang Leng Wan is miraculous for Chang Qun. The latter contains Dingxiang (Clove), Muxiang (Costus Root), Huixiang (Fennel Seed), Chuanlianzi (Szechwan Chinaberry Fruit), Qingpi (Green Tangerine Peel), Ezhu (Curcuma Rhizome), and Sanleng (Sparganium Rhizome).
[Note] The classics state: Cold pathogens lodge outside the intestines, struggling with Wei Qi (Defensive Qi), preventing normal nourishment. Due to adhesion, masses form internally, evil Qi arises, and flesh proliferates. Initially the size of a chicken egg, it gradually enlarges to resemble pregnancy; it is firm upon pressure but movable upon pushing, while menstruation proceeds on schedule. Shi Xia originates in the Bao Zhong (Uterus); cold pathogens lodge at the Zi Men, causing obstruction where Qi cannot flow freely. Evil blood should descend but fails to do so, remaining stagnant and enlarging daily, resembling pregnancy, yet menstruation does not occur on schedule. Both conditions affect women and can be treated by guiding the pathogenic factors downward. From the classic text, although both conditions resemble pregnancy, Chang Qun involves Qi pathology without Blood pathology, hence menstruation is regular; Shi Xia involves initial Qi pathology followed by Blood pathology, hence menstruation ceases. Shi Xia is suitable for Wu Zhu Yu Tang. Chang Qun is suitable for Xiang Leng Wan, composed of Muxiang, Dingxiang, Huixiang, Chuanlianzi, Qingpi, Guangzhu (Ezhu), and Sanleng, prepared into pills using vinegar-boiled wheat paste.
