Modified Xiaotiaojing Powder (Cinnamon Twig and Cyathula Root Decoction)
In Blood-Compartment Syndrome, blood stasis prevents normal circulation, leading to edema of the four limbs; the condition is not mild. Once menstruation flows freely, the edema will naturally dissipate. Add Red Flower (Carthami Flos), Moutan Bark (Moutan Cortex), and Achyranthes Root (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix) to Xiaotiaojing Powder for treatment.
[Note] Edema of the Blood Compartment arises from blood stasis obstructing flow, which spills into the four limbs, causing swelling. There is no need to treat the edema directly; rather, regulate the menses. Once the menstrual cycle is unobstructed, the swelling will subside spontaneously. It is appropriate to treat with Xiaotiaojing Powder augmented with Carthami Flos, Moutan Cortex, and Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix.
Xiaotiaojing Powder (See Formula in Volume 3, under "Edema")
When edema precedes amenorrhea, it is termed Water Compartment Syndrome. This results from fluid retention in the Bladder, where Qi transformation fails, causing water to overflow onto the skin, thus leading to edema and cessation of menstruation. In such cases, only the water retention needs to be treated. Once the edema subsides, menstruation will resume naturally. Treat with Lingjiang Daoshui Pill.
Lingjiang Daoshui Decoction (See Formula in Prenatal Section, under "Fetal Edema")
Modified Guipi Tang (Spleen-Restoring Decoction)
Laughing alone or weeping alone, fearing human contact; due to Heart-Shen deficiency, nocturnal dreams seem as if invaded by ghosts or evil spirits. Use Guipi Tang adjusted with Cinnabar (Zhusha) and Amber (Hupo) powder to stabilize the Will, clear the Heart, and calm the Hun and Po.
[Note] Women suffering from internal injury caused by the Seven Emotions damage the Heart and Spleen. The Shen (Spirit) loses its protection, allowing evil influences to interfere with righteous Qi, resulting in unrest of the Hun and Po. Hence, there are nocturnal dreams of sexual intercourse with ghosts; laughing or weeping alone, as if confronting someone, are characteristic signs. It is appropriate to use Guipi Tang, mixed with powdered Zhusha and Hupo. Then, the Zhi (Will) becomes stable, the Heart clears, the Hun and Po remain secure, and evil dreams cease.
Guipi Tang (See Formula in Volume 1)
Banxia Houpo Tang (Pinellia and Magnolia Bark Decoction)
Women feel as if a roasted meat lump is stuck in the throat, or like a plum seed lodged between the pharynx and esophagus. Banxia Houpo Tang is most effective. It is decocted using Pinellia Rhizome (Banxia), Magnolia Bark (Houpo), Perilla Leaf (Zisuye), Poria (Fuling), and Ginger (Shengjiang).
[Note] The *Qianjin Fang* states: "The throat feels tight, as if there were a piece of roasted meat; one cannot spit it out, nor swallow it down." This is what is meant by "feeling as if there were a roasted meat lump in the throat," commonly known as Plum-Pit Qi. It is caused by internal injury to the Seven Emotions and external contraction of Cold. It is appropriate to treat with Banxia Houpo Tang from the *Jin Gui Yao Lue*, which consists of Banxia, Houpo, Zisuye, Fuling, and Shengjiang decocted together.
