Signs of Excess Heat: Pulse is excess, eyes are red, convulsions and tremors occur, face is red with crimson lips, mental restlessness and thirst, constipation and difficult urination, abdominal pain, distension and fullness in the chest and hypochondrium, belching with acid regurgitation, emaciation where diet fails to nourish the flesh; Signs of Deficiency Heat: Pulse is deficient, poor appetite, faint voice and shortness of breath, aversion to human voices, loose stools with undigested food, clear and profuse urination, empty distension of the abdomen. The source of disease may be invasion by Wind-Cold, Summer-Heat, or Dampness; or injury from cold and raw foods; or internal accumulation; or external fright; or excessive consumption of rich, sweet, and greasy foods; or wearing clothes that are too warm. Accumulated Heat refers to internal stagnation and depression that cannot be vented, manifesting after a long time. Its onset may present as high fever over the whole body lasting a month without receding; alternating chills and fever resembling malaria but not being it; tidal fever in the late afternoon occurring at fixed times. If left untreated, prolonged发作 leads to lingering pathogenic factors, chronic heat transforming into Infantile Malnutrition (Gan Syndrome), which becomes incurable. Treatment methods: Resolve Wind-Cold with harmonizing methods; Clear and disperse Summer-Heat; Guide out food stagnation with digestion-promoting methods; Warm and disperse Cold-Raw injuries; Purge accumulations based on Excess or Deficiency; Calm the Spirit and scatter Fright for trauma and fright.
