Ancient texts state: "For a son not to study medical books is considered unfilial." Then, for one who possesses medical formulas and theories but does not pass them on to others, is it not considered inhumane? However, medical formularies are vast and numerous, counting in the tens of thousands. Unless one has devoted oneself to their study from an early age, it is not easy to search and retrieve them. In our dynasty (Song), the famous physician Zhang Huan, holding the title of Tuanlian Shi, besides authoring *Jifeng Puji Fang* (Chicken Peak Universal Relief Formulas), also compiled a volume titled *Beiji* (Emergency Preparedness). The formulas within consist of single herbs used individually, which are relied upon in emergencies. Zhang Gong's intention can be said to be deeply committed to benefiting humanity. I have practiced medicine since childhood, meticulously studying the essentials of every ancient formula and skill. Having lived in my hometown for nearly forty or fifty years, I have used this knowledge both for self-nourishment and to benefit others. Now that my hair and teeth have aged, I often reflect on the desire to distribute medicines to help people, yet my physical strength falls short. Among methods that benefit without cost, none surpasses the techniques of acupuncture and moxibustion. However, acupuncture is difficult to transmit; for saving lives in sudden emergencies, burning moxa is the primary method. I now compile these tested formulas into a collection, carve them onto woodblocks to widely disseminate them. Their application is doubtless, their efficacy proven, capable of reversing death and restoring life, mirroring the wonders of creation. For acupoints that may seem slightly obscure, I refer to existing illustrations, so that those suffering from illness or facing emergencies can heal by following the text, hoping this serves as a modest supplement.

Using a thin bamboo strip or a wax paper strip, measure the transverse crease of the middle segment of the middle finger. Cut off the upper and lower ends to make it level, defining this length as one cun. Apply to the left hand for males and the right hand for females.
