The methods of Huangdi (Yellow Emperor), Qibo, and Sun Simiao for treating Ding Chuang (Ding Carbuncle): There are many types of Ding Chuang. Initially, they all appear as a single protruding spot resembling a nail cap, hence the name. Those occurring on the hands, feet, head, or face die faster; only early moxibustion is suitable. Whenever one feels such a condition, moxa should be applied to the point between the two tendons four cun distal to the wrist crease for fourteen moxa cones, selecting the acupoint according to the illustration.
Huangdi, Qibo, and Sun Simiao treat Fu Gu Ju (Bone-Attending Abscess) using the same moxibustion method as for Ding Chuang. Fu Gu Ju refers to an abscess that forms attached to the bone without apparent cause, hence the name. It mostly occurs in the intertendinous spaces of large joints in the four limbs, particularly in the legs of debilitated individuals and postpartum women. The symptoms initially present as heaviness and numbness, or numbness with pain, or merely a burning heat sensation, accompanied by difficulty in movement. Palpation reveals soreness and pain in the bone. After several days, the skin and flesh gradually become tight, swelling heavily like that of an obese person. It is often treated as Zei Feng (Thief Wind) or Feng Zhong (Wind Swelling). Neglect and delay often lead to death. Whenever such a condition arises, early moxibustion is advisable, selecting the acupoint according to the Ding Chuang illustration: left for males, right for females.
The illustration is seen in the previous Ding Chuang section.
Males and females use the same method (this is the Quchi [LI11] acupoint).
Zhang Wenzhong, Sun Simiao, and Yao Hezhong treat Skin Poisonous Wind (Du Feng): The symptoms of Du Feng disease suddenly involve whole-body pain and itching as if bitten by insects. When scratching due to extreme itching, the skin peels off, becoming rotten and forming sores. Whenever such a condition arises, urgently moxa should be applied to the space between the bones at the bent elbows of both arms, twenty-one moxa cones each. Select the acupoint according to the illustration.
Zhen Quan treats sudden severe heart pain with Jue Ni (Cold Reversal) approaching death by moxa-ing the point between the two tendons three cun distal to the wrist crease, fourteen moxa cones on the left and right respectively. Select the acupoint according to the illustration.
Ge Xianweng and Xu Sibai treat sudden Zhuang Pao (Twisted Bladder) with urinary retention, accompanied by restlessness, shortness of breath, and approaching death. Fill the umbilicus with salt and apply large moxa cones for twenty-one cones. If urination does not resume, continue moxibustion; stop once it resumes.
Males and females use the same method.
Ge Xianweng treats Huo Luan (Cholera-like disorder) where the patient appears dead, and various talismans and medicines have failed, stating that this method is uniquely special. Bringing the dead back to life lies not in herbal formulas but in principle. The underlying logic is profound and mysterious, beyond the understanding of ordinary people. Urgently moxa the tips of both elbows, fourteen moxa cones each, with moxa cones the size of mung beans. Select the acupoint according to the illustration.
Males and females use the same method (this moxa point is the same as the point used by Sun Simiao for treating Chang Yong [Intestinal Abscess] mentioned earlier).
The figure has already been shown in the previous Chang Yong section.
