At the Cun Kou position of the left hand, corresponding to the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine channel. The pulse is Hong (Surging) and Jin (Tight) (another version says Hong and Chang/Long). It serves as the official responsible for receiving and storing, named the Fu-organ of Reception and Storage.
At the Guan position of the left hand, corresponding to the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder channel. The pulse is Xian (Wiry), Da (Large), and Fu (Floating) (another version says Da and Fu; yet another says intermittent in speed, varying in length; another says varying in size, varying in shortness and length). This differs little from the pulse of Gui (malevolent spirits/disease). How to distinguish? Answer: If all three positions on both hands exhibit this, it is called a Gui pulse. Since only the left Guan position exhibits this now, it may be termed the Gallbladder pulse. The Gallbladder serves as the official of integrity, named the Fu-organ of Purity (another version says Fu-organ of Central Essence). The Gallbladder, associated with Ministerial Fire, and the Liver, associated with Wind-Wood, share a combined pulse interpretation; if the pulse is Ji (Rapid/Tense), it indicates Jing (Fright/Palpitations).
Inside the Chi position of the left hand, corresponding to the Foot-Taiyang Bladder channel. The pulse is Hong (Surging), Hua (Slippery), and Chang (Long). The Bladder serves as the official of the Capital City, named the Fu-organ of Fluids. The Bladder, associated with Cold-Water, and the Kidney, associated with Sovereign Fire, share a combined pulse interpretation; if the pulse is Ji (Rapid/Tense), it leads to Jia (Masses/Fixed lumps).
The Heart pulse resides at the Wu position; calling it Sovereign Fire is appropriate. Now, the Kidney pulse resides at the Zi position, yet is also called Sovereign Fire; what is the rationale? The Mingmen (Gate of Life) pulse, serving as the master of the Heart, resides at the Hai position; calling it Ministerial Fire is appropriate. Now, the Gallbladder pulse resides at the Yin position, yet is also called Ministerial Fire; why is this? Upon consulting the "Tianyuanji Dalun" chapter of the *Neijing*, Gui Yuzhou stated: In years of Zi and Wu, Shaoyin appears above; in years of Si and Hai, Jueyin appears above. Shaoyin is referred to as Biao (Mark/Manifestation); Jueyin is referred to as Zhong (End). Above Jueyin, Wind Qi governs; above Shaoyin, Heat Qi governs; above Shaoyang, Ministerial Fire governs. Commentators explain that years of Wu and Hai represent Zhenghua (Direct Transformation), while years of Zi and Si represent Duihua (Counter Transformation). From this perspective, both the Heart and Kidney can be termed Sovereign Fire, as they are governed by Heat Qi. Since Jueyin governs Wind Qi, the Hand-Jueyin Mingmen should not be described as Ministerial Fire. Since Shaoyang governs its Ministerial Fire, it is clear that the Gallbladder and Sanjiao belong to Ministerial Fire.
At the Cun Kou position of the right hand, corresponding to the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine channel. The pulse is Fu (Floating), Duan (Short), and Hua (Slippery) (another version says Duan and Se/Rough). The Large Intestine serves as the official of transmission, named the Fu-organ of Transmission.
At the Guan position of the right hand, corresponding to the Foot-Yangming Stomach channel. The pulse is Fu (Floating), Chang (Long), and Se (Rough) (another version says Fu Da/Large and Duan/Short). The Stomach serves as the official of granaries, named the Fu-organ of Water and Grain. The Stomach, associated with Dry-Metal, and the Spleen, associated with Damp-Earth, share a combined interpretation.
Inside the Chi position of the right hand, corresponding to the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao channel. The pulse is Hong (Surging), San (Scattered), and Ji (Rapid/Tense). The Sanjiao serves as the official of drainage, named the Outer Fu-organ.
