蒜香膏
治冷证腹痛夜啼。以大蒜一颗。慢火煨香熟。取出切细研烂。于日中爆。或火上炕半干，可丸时即以好乳
香秤半钱。研细如粉拌入。再研极匀。丸如芥子大。每服七丸。乳头粘服。或乳汁送下。食空。
当归丸

芎 散

三黄丸
治热证心燥。夜啼及诸热证。

治儿睡着时。忽然乍惊哭而觉。面赤口干。状若神祟。此虽夜啼。非名夜啼也。乃风热邪气乘心藏而作，名

明砂丸
治心神不宁多惊。心腹疼痛。夜啼不止。

又方 治夜间卒惊啼哭。似有痛处。而不知疾状。取雄鸡冠血。沥儿口上。滴少许入口中。即瘥。
又方 治如前。以乱发烧灰为末。涂乳上。令儿吮之。能食者饮调亦得。
甑带法
治鬼祟邪厉夜啼。取甑带悬户上。
又法 治如前。以胡粉水调二大豆许与服。日三。
马骨末 治小儿诸夜啼。以马骨为细末。敷母乳上。令小儿吮服。即止。
又方 治如前。取野狼粪中骨烧灰。研为细末。服黍米许。便止。

小儿夜间啼哭，证候表现多种多样。其中主要的类型，不出三种：一是寒证，即脾脏受寒导致腹痛而啼哭。其表现为面色青白，手脚冰凉，腹部寒冷，口中呼出的气也是冷的，孩子蜷缩着腰啼哭，不肯吃奶。又有从出生起就经常啼哭，到了夜晚加重的情况，这是胃寒，也称为胎寒。《圣济经》说积冷会导致夜间啼哭，夜晚属阴，寒气则引起疼痛，所以夜间疼痛剧烈，导致婴儿啼哭。二是热证，即心脏有热导致烦躁而啼哭。其表现为面红，小便颜色深黄，口中热气腾腾，心腹部也温暖，孩子仰身啼哭，不肯吃奶。又有很多伴有惊悸、惊恐跳跃，或在睡眠中突然叫喊啼哭的，这是风热所致，也称为惊啼。心主热，其表现为惊骇，所以热邪会产生惊悸。又因为心属火，热则火势旺盛，所以热邪燥烈，导致婴儿啼哭。三是邪祟，谓有鬼气侵扰。其表现为睡卧不安稳，有时感到疼痛。况且鬼祟属于阴物，入夜时势力旺盛。小儿精神怯弱，血气稚嫩微弱，夜间被鬼气所侵扰，所以导致婴儿啼哭。此外，客忤、虫动、重舌、口疮等疾病，也都能够引起夜间啼哭。治疗方剂分别列在各项之下，不像上述三种那样专一。现在将方剂叙述如下。
蒜香膏
治疗寒证引起的腹痛夜间啼哭。用大蒜一颗，用慢火煨至香熟，取出切细并研烂，在阳光下暴晒，或在火上炕至半干，可以制成丸药时，取优质乳香称半钱，研成细粉拌入，再研磨至极均匀，制成如芥菜籽大小的丸药。每次服用七丸，涂在乳头让婴儿吸吮，或用乳汁送服，需在空腹时服用。
当归丸
治疗方法同上。
当归（去芦头洗净焙干称重） 白芍药 人参（去芦头各一分） 甘草（炙） 桔梗（去芦头） 陈皮（不去白半分）
以上药材研为细末。每次取半钱，用水煎煮，随时服用。
龙角丸
治疗小儿五种惊风引起的夜间啼哭。
龙角（一分） 黄芩（半两） 牡蛎（一分半，火煅；一作牡丹皮） 蚱蝉（去土二枚） 牛黄（如小豆大五块）
川大黄（一分半）
以上药材研为末，用炼蜜调和制成如麻子大小的丸药。初生婴儿服两丸，大小可根据情况酌情增减。
芎䓖散
治疗小儿夜间啼哭，到天亮则安静。芎䓖、白术、防己各半两，研为末。用乳汁调和给婴儿服用，根据婴儿大小酌情决定用量。或者母亲用手蘸药末按入婴儿脐中，并按摩婴儿头部和脊背，效果显著。婴儿出生二十日以内，不能服药的，用乳汁调和如麻子大一丸，放入婴儿口中，用乳汁送下。
另一方法：取道路中间的伏龙肝各一把，共同研细，用水调少许给婴儿饮用。
治疗小儿夜间啼哭：用蝉蜕去土研为细末，用生姜蜜水调匀涂抹婴儿下唇。
另一方法：治疗惊啼夜间啼哭，用腊月绑猪的绳子烧成灰，用水调服。用某皮三寸烧成灰，混入乳汁中饮用。治疗像被异物刺伤一样的啼哭。
灯花丸
治疗方法同上。能祛邪止痛。用灯花二十个，乳香如皂子大的两块，共同研为末。用粟米饮调和制成如芥菜籽大小的丸药。每次服用七丸，用桃心汤送服，不限时间。
万金散
治疗脏腑寒气虚弱，面色青白，遇到夜晚多啼哭。状似鬼神作祟。
沉香（锉碎） 丁香 人参（去芦头） 五味子（去枝梗炒） 当归（去芦头洗焙各一两） 白术（锉碎） 赤芍药（各半两） 桂心（一分）
以上药材研为细末。每次取一钱，用淡浆水一小盏，煎至五分，放温。随时滴入口中。婴儿较大者可稍多喂饮，立即见效。
当归散
治疗胎寒引起的啼哭不止，久病可能转变为痫证。用当归研为末，每次取如小豆大小的量，用乳汁调匀涂抹婴儿口中。日夜服用五次。
三黄丸
治疗热证引起的心躁、夜间啼哭以及各种热证。
黄芩（半两） 大黄（去皮湿纸包裹煨熟一分） 黄连（去须一分）
以上药材研为细末，用面糊调和制成如绿豆大小的丸药。每次服用五到七丸，用人参汤送服。也治疗白天啼哭。
另一方法：治疗热烦腹痛夜间啼哭，用真牛黄少许，如小豆大，用乳汁化开服用。
另一方法：治疗热证心躁夜间啼哭，用灯花三两颗，用灯心草煎汤，调匀涂抹婴儿口中，用乳汁送下，每日三次。钱乙也治疗脏冷夜间啼哭，只需将药物顿在乳头上，让婴儿吸吮。又是经验方，用灯心草烧成灰，涂在乳头上让婴儿吸吮。
红桃散
治疗风热体质如火烫般，夜间啼哭不吃奶。
天南星（两个，每个中心挖窝放入朱砂装满，用木盖盖住，水调取下中心的粉末，涂在缝隙处，掘一地坑放置在内，用炭覆盖，用火烤红后放冷取出研末） 全蝎（半钱研末） 白附子（大的二十个研末） 腻粉（一钱）
以上拌匀研磨均匀。每次取一字量，用金银薄荷汤调下。
绿霞散
治疗方法同上。
柏叶（二钱研末） 蝎末（一钱） 天南星（炮制后研末一分） 白僵蚕（去丝嘴研末一钱） 郁金（研末一钱）

以上拌匀研细。每次服用一字或半钱，用薄荷蜜水调下，不限时间。
前胡丸
治疗风热引起的气啼。用去芦头的前胡研为末，用炼蜜调和制成如小豆大小的丸药。每日服用一丸，用温水送下。服用到五到六丸，即可痊愈。
牛黄膏
治疗婴儿睡着时，突然乍惊哭醒，面红口干，状似鬼神作祟。这虽然也是夜间啼哭，但不称为夜啼，而是风热邪气乘袭心脏所致，称为惊啼。
真牛黄（研） 过筛的牡蛎粉 朱砂（研，水飞） 雄黄（研，飞各一分） 人参（去芦头） 甘草（炙各半两）
龙脑（半分研）
以上药材研为末拌匀，用炼蜜调和成膏，如鸡头子大小。每次服用半粒或一粒，用薄荷汤化开服用，在乳食之后。

明砂丸

以上药材研为末，用软饭调和制成如黍米大小的丸药。每次服用三到五丸，用薄荷汤送下。
麝香散
治疗惊啼夜哭，发作不停。用麝香研细，取半字量，用清水调下。每日二到三次服用。
铁涎膏
治疗各种惊风夜间啼哭。
丁头代赭石（半两，火煅醋淬，次数不限直到易碎为止） 铁胤粉（一钱，即铁华粉） 白附子（一钱） 辰砂（一钱，水飞） 麝香（一字研） 龙脑（一字研）
以上药材研为细末，拌匀。用蒸枣烂泥调和成膏，随用随取。婴儿用半皂子许，至二三岁用一皂子许，用金银薄荷汤化开服用，不拘时候。
七宝轻青丹
治疗惊啼夜哭，以及诸热等疾。
螺青（半两） 蛤粉（一分） 钩藤（炒为末一钱） 白附子（三字） 铅锡灰（二钱） 丁香（一字炒）
天竺黄（一钱）
以上药材研为细末，加入麝香半皂子许，研细拌匀。用米粉煮糊调和制成如豌豆大小的丸药。每次服用一丸，用薄荷汤磨开水送下，不限时间。
另一方法：治疗夜间突然惊啼哭，似有痛处但不知病情。取雄鸡冠血，滴在婴儿嘴上，滴少许入口中，即可痊愈。

甑带法
治疗鬼祟邪厉引起的夜间啼哭。取蒸锅的带子悬挂在门框上。

马骨末 治疗小儿各种夜间啼哭。用马骨研为细末，敷在母乳上，让婴儿吸吮服用，即可停止。

Night crying in infants presents with various syndromes. The primary types fall into three categories: First, Cold Syndrome, where cold in the Spleen causes abdominal pain and crying. Signs include a cyanotic or pale complexion, cold hands and feet, a cold abdomen, and cold breath from the mouth. The infant cries with a curved waist and refuses to suckle. Another type involves frequent crying since birth that worsens at night; this is Stomach Cold, also known as Fetal Cold. The *Shengji Jing* states that accumulated cold leads to night crying. Night belongs to Yin, and cold generates pain, so pain is severe at night, causing the infant to cry. Second, Heat Syndrome, where heat in the Heart causes irritability and crying. Signs include a red face, dark urine, hot breath, and warmth in the heart and abdomen. The infant cries while lying on their back and refuses to suckle. Many cases involve palpitations, startles, or sudden crying during sleep, caused by Wind-Heat, also called Startle Crying. The Heart governs Heat, and its manifestation is startle; thus, heat generates startle. Since the Heart corresponds to Fire, heat makes the Fire vigorous, and the dryness of pathogenic heat causes the infant to cry. Third, Evil Influence (Gui Su), attributed to ghostly qi invasion. Signs include restless sleep and occasional pain. Ghostly influences are Yin entities and are potent at night. Infants have weak spirit and delicate Qi and Blood; being invaded by ghostly qi at night causes crying. Additionally, external shocks (Ke Wu), intestinal parasites, double tongue, and mouth ulcers can also cause night crying. Treatment formulas are listed under respective categories, distinct from these three main types. The formulas are presented below.
Garlic Fragrant Plaster
Treats night crying due to abdominal pain from Cold Syndrome. Take one clove of garlic, slow-roast until fragrant and cooked, remove, chop finely, and mash. Sun-dry or bake over fire until half-dry. When ready for pill formation, add half a qian of high-quality Frankincense (Ruxiang, 乳香) ground into fine powder, mix thoroughly, and grind until uniform. Form pills the size of mustard seeds. Administer seven pills per dose, applying to the nipple for sucking or giving with milk water, on an empty stomach.
Danggui Pill
Treats as above.
Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui, 当归) (remove root head, wash, dry, weigh) White Peony Root (Baishao, 白芍药) Ginseng Radix (Renshen, 人参) (remove root head, each 1 fen) Licorice Root (Gancao, 甘草) (roasted) Platycodon Root (Jiegeng, 桔梗) (remove root head) Tangerine Peel (Chenpi, 陈皮) (do not remove white pith, half fen)

Longjiao Pill
Treats five types of startle-induced night crying in infants.
Dragon Horn (Longjiao, 龙角) (1 fen) Scutellaria Root (Huangqin, 黄芩) (0.5 liang) Oyster Shell (Muli, 牡蛎) (1.5 fen, calcined; alternatively Peony Root Bark Mudanpi, 牡丹皮) Grasshopper (Zachan, 蚱蝉) (remove soil, 2 specimens) Calculus Bovis (Niuhuang, 牛黄) (5 pieces, size of mung bean) Rhubarb (Dahuang, 大黄) (1.5 fen)
Grind into powder, mix with refined honey to form pills the size of hemp seeds. For newborns, administer two pills; adjust dosage according to age and condition.
Xiong San Powder
Treats infant night crying, which resolves by morning. Ligusticum Rhizome (Xiongnu, 芎䓖), Atractylodes Rhizome (Baizhu, 白术), and Premna Root (Fangji, 防己) each 0.5 liang. Grind into powder. Mix with milk water for administration, adjusting dosage based on infant size. Alternatively, mother applies medicine to her hand and presses into infant's umbilicus, massaging head and spine. Highly effective. For infants under 20 days unable to take oral medication, mix with milk water into a pill the size of a hemp seed, place in mouth, and guide down with milk water.
Alternative method: Take earth from under the stove (Fulonggan, 伏龙肝) from roadsides, grind finely, mix with water, and give a small amount to drink.
Treatment for infant night crying: Use Cicada Slough (Chanui, 蝉蜕) de-soiled and ground into fine powder. Mix with ginger and honey water, apply to lower lip.
Alternative method: Treats startle crying and night crying. Burn rope used to tie pigs in the twelfth lunar month to ash, mix with water, and administer. Burn three cun of unspecified skin to ash, mix with milk water. Treats crying resembling injury from foreign bodies.
Denghua Pill
Treats as above. Expels evil and relieves pain. Take 20 lamp wick flowers (Denghua, 灯花) and two pieces of Frankincense (Ruxiang, 乳香) the size of soap nuts. Grind together into powder. Mix with millet water to form pills the size of mustard seeds. Administer seven pills per dose with Peach Heart Decoction, anytime.
Wanjing San Powder
Treats internal cold and weakness, cyanotic/pale complexion, excessive night crying resembling supernatural influence.

Grind into fine powder. Take 1 qian per dose, decoct in light sour water (one small cup) until reduced to 0.5 cup. Warm and drip into mouth frequently. Older infants may drink slightly more; effect is immediate.
Danggui San Powder
Treats incessant crying due to fetal cold, which may long-term transform into epilepsy. Grind Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui, 当归) into powder. Take amount the size of a mung bean per dose, mix with milk water, smear inside infant's mouth. Administer five times daily and nightly.
Sanhuang Pill
Treats Heat Syndrome causing heart irritability, night crying, and other heat conditions.
Scutellaria Root (Huangqin, 黄芩) (0.5 liang) Rhubarb (Dahuang, 大黄) (peeled, wrapped in wet paper, roasted, 1 fen) Coptis Rhizome (Huanglian, 黄连) (remove roots, 1 fen)
Grind into powder, mix with flour paste to form pills the size of mung beans. Administer 5-7 pills per dose with Ginseng Decoction. Also treats daytime crying.
Alternative method: Treats heat-induced irritability, abdominal pain, and night crying. Use real Calculus Bovis (Niuhuang, 牛黄), amount the size of a mung bean, dissolve in milk water and administer.
Alternative method: Treats Heat Syndrome heart irritability and night crying. Use 2-3 lamp wick flowers (Denghua, 灯花), decoct with Centum Segments Herb (Dengxincao, 灯心草), mix, smear in mouth, guide down with milk water. Three times daily. Qian Yi also treated cold-viscera night crying by placing medicine on nipple for infant to suck. Another empirical formula: burn Centum Segments Herb (Dengxincao, 灯心草) to ash, apply to nipple for infant to suck.
Hongtao San Powder
Treats Wind-Heat syndrome with body feeling like fire, night crying, and refusal to suckle.

Mix well and grind finely. Take one zi or half qian per dose, administer with Mint and Honey Water, anytime.
Qianhu Pill
Treats Wind-Heat Qi crying. Grind prepared Peucedani Radix (Qianhu, 前胡) (remove root head) into powder. Mix with refined honey to form pills the size of soybeans. One pill daily, taken with warm water. After taking 5-6 pills, condition improves.
Niuhuang Ointment
Treats infants who suddenly wake up crying with startle while sleeping, with red face and dry mouth, resembling supernatural influence. Although night crying, it is not classified as simple night crying but as Startle Crying caused by Wind-Heat pathogenic qi invading the Heart.

Anshen Pill

Grind into fine powder. Mix with refined honey to form pills the size of a cockle. Take half a pill per dose, dissolve in sugar water, anytime.
Hujing San Powder
Treats startle-induced night crying. Grind Tiger Eye (Hujing, 虎睛) into powder. Mix with Bamboo Sap (Zhuli, 竹沥) in small amount, smear in mouth.
Alternative method: Treats as above. Take axle grease (Chekexi, 车辖脂) the size of a mung bean, insert into mouth. Also insert small amount into umbilicus.
Alternative method: Treats as above. Burn father's shed hair to ash, grind to powder, mix with wine, administer one zi amount. Adjust for size; warm water is also acceptable.
Alternative method: Treats as above. Burn chicken droppings (white part) to ash, grind to powder, mix with rice water and administer.
Mingsha Pill
Treats restless mind with frequent startles, abdominal pain, and incessant night crying.
Transparent Cinnabar (Zhusha, 朱砂) (1 qian) Almond (Xingren, 杏仁) (14, remove skin and tips, stir-fry yellow) Good坯子 (Hao Peizi, 好坯子) (half qian, i.e., Rouge Yanzhi, 胭脂)
Grind into powder. Mix with soft rice to form pills the size of millet grains. Take 3-5 pills per dose with Mint Decoction.
Shexiang San Powder
Treats startle crying and night weeping, recurring incessantly. Grind Musk (Shexiang, 麝香) finely, take half a zi amount, dissolve in clear water and administer. Two to three times daily.

Treats various startle-induced night crying.

Grind into fine powder, mix well. Combine with mashed steamed dates to form ointment. Apply as needed. Infants: half soap nut size. Children 2-3 years: one soap nut size. Dissolve in Silver Flower and Mint Decoction, anytime.
Qibao Qingqing Dan
Treats startle crying, night weeping, and various heat diseases.
Vermilion Blue (Luoqing, 螺青) (0.5 liang) Clam Powder (Gafen, 蛤粉) (1 fen) Uncaria Ramulus with Hook (Gouteng, 钩藤) (stir-fried, ground, 1 qian) Typhonii Rhizoma (Baifuzi, 白附子) (three zi) Lead-Tin Ash (Qianxi Hui, 铅锡灰) (2 qian) Clove (Dingxiang, 丁香) (one zi, stir-fried) Himalayan Beech Pollen (Tianzhuhuang, 天竺黄) (1 qian)
Grind into fine powder. Add half soap nut size of Musk (Shexiang, 麝香), grind fine and mix. Boil rice flour into paste, mix to form pills the size of peas. Take one pill per dose, grind in Mint Decoction and administer, anytime.
Alternative method: Treats sudden night startle crying, seemingly painful but unknown condition. Take rooster comb blood, drip on infant's mouth, let enter mouth; condition improves immediately.
Alternative method: Treats as above. Burn shed hair to ash, apply to nipple for infant to suck. If able to eat, water mixture is also acceptable.
Zengdai Method
Treats ghostly evil night crying. Hang strap from steamer (Zengdai, 甑带) on door frame.
Another method: Treats as above. Mix Hu Fen (Hufen, 胡粉) with water, give amount of two soybeans, three times daily.
Magu Powder
Treats various infant night crying. Grind Horse Bone (Magu, 马骨) into fine powder, apply to breast milk, let infant suck. Stops crying immediately.
Alternative method: Treats as above. Burn bones from wild wolf feces to ash, grind fine, administer amount the size of millet grain; stops immediately.
Alternative method: Treats as above. Place grass from chicken nest under nursing mother's sleeping mat.
