Infants suffering from *Jinyin Chuang* (Infiltrating Sores) do so because of heat in the internal organs steaming and affecting the skin, compounded by wind-dampness clashing and obstructing the flow of blood and qi. Initially, these sores appear small and fragmented, later producing pus; they spread gradually, with new sores arising wherever the pus touches, hence the name "Infiltrating Sore." Another condition, Wind-Toxic Damp Sore, resembles the Infiltrating Sore and also spreads via pus, but the crusts surround the area more broadly and are slightly larger than those of the Infiltrating Sore.
To treat Infiltrating Sores accompanied by unbearable pain, chills, and fever: Grind *Cirsii Herba* (Thistle Herb) into a fine powder, mix with fresh water, apply to the sore, and change when dry.
Xionghuang Ointment
Treats Infiltrating Sores with excellent efficacy.
*Xionghuang* (Realgar, 1 liang, ground and purified by water flotation) *Cihuang* (Orpiment, 1 liang, ground and purified by water flotation) *Chuan Wutou* (Radix Aconiti Kusnezoffii, 1 piece, skin and umbilicus removed, ground to powder) *Songzhi* (Pine Rosin, 1 fen, ground) *Luankua* (Scattered Hair, 1 fen, burnt to ash)
Take 6 liang of lard, melt it in a yin vessel, then add the latter three ingredients. Boil until the hair is completely dissolved, filter through silk cloth to remove dregs, mix in the powdered Realgar and Orpiment, and store in a porcelain container as an ointment. Apply a small amount to the sore three times daily.
Another prescription: Treat as above. Under lamplight, use a mirror to inspect the sore, apply rouge, repeating this application seven times.
Kuhu Powder
Treats Wind-Toxic Damp Sores.
*Gan Kuhu* (Dried Fruit of Momordica Charantia, 1 liang) *Shetui* (Ophichthys Skin, half liang, burnt to ash) *Lufengfang* (Vespa Nest, half liang, lightly roasted)
Grind all into a fine powder. Take half qian each time, mix with raw sesame oil for topical application. Increase dosage if sores are numerous.
Sisheng Powder
Treats as above.
*Mianhuang* (likely referring to a specific herb or typo for *Mian Huangqi*, contextually ambiguous, kept as Mianhuang) *Baifuzi* (Rhizoma Typhonii Gigantei) *Qianghuo* (Rhizoma et Radix Notopterygii, de-gorged) *Jili* (Fructus Tribuli, equal parts)
Grind into a fine powder. Take 1 qian per dose, swallow with warm wine.
Infants suffering from *Jiang Chuang* (Blistering Sores) develop them due to wind-heat toxic qi lodging in the skin and clashing with blood and qi. It begins with a sensation like burning or scalding, forming blisters that soon rupture, releasing fluid to form sores. These are very painful and spread progressively; some cases lead to whole-body ulceration where flesh cannot be saved, hence also called "Rotting Sores," requiring prompt treatment. Another variant presents as narrow, elongated sores resembling fish navels, exuding yellow fluid, with blister-like eruptions around the sides. Although similar to Jiang Chuang, there is a slight difference: Jiang Chuang starts with blisters that break to become sores, whereas this variant forms sores first, followed by continuous blister formation around them, looking like fish navels, thus named "Fish-Navel Sore." Jiang Chuang does not resemble the Fish-Navel Sore.
To treat Jiang Chuang: Wash, chop, and finely grind *Baiye* (Cupressi Cacumen), applying it topically; it dries instantly. Also take half a cup of its juice, diluted with water, orally administered, showing miraculous and repeated efficacy.
Another prescription: Peel and remove tips of *Taoren* (Persicae Semen), cook thoroughly, grind finely, and mix with animal fat for topical application.
Another prescription: For yellow, rotting sores, apply ash from burnt *Aiyè* (Artemisiae Argyi Folium). Alternatively, apply horse manure ash.
Shengdihuang Ointment
Treats severe blazing toxic sores spreading over the body.
*Sheng Dihuang* (Rehmanniae Radix, de-gorged and washed) *Chuan Shengma* ( Cimicifugae Rhizoma) *Lanye* (Isatidis Folium) *Zhizi Ren* (Gardeniae Semen) *Dahuang* (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang each)
Grind finely. Mix with 8 liang of lard in a yin vessel, simmer slowly until color changes, filter out dregs, store in a porcelain box, and cool to form an ointment. Apply a small amount to sores.
To treat sudden appearance of small blisters on the face, eyes, and body of infants: Burn sheep horns to ash, grind finely, mix with egg white for topical application; highly effective. If egg white is unavailable, it is still good.
To treat infant Jiang Chuang presenting like fish bladders, red and rotting, with unbearable heat and pain: Take donkey dung from a mill. If clumped, dry it regardless of quantity, pile it on the ground, shape it like a hut, ignite with a lamp, burn until nearly extinguished, cover with a basin to kill the fire, turning it into black ash (do not let it turn white). Grind to powder. Take 1 qian, mix with 2 qian of *Nifen* (Calomel/Basic Mercury Chloride), blend with residual lamp oil, apply like ice compress to relieve heat and pain; very wonderful.
To treat infant Jiang Chuang rising like button covers, starting on the head, spreading to face, chest, back, and body within one to two days, with hot and painful sores:
*Zhusha* (Cinnabar, half liang, ground and purified by water flotation) *Hufen* (Lead Carbonate, 1.5 liang) *Shuiyin* (Mercury, half liang)
Grind together in one place, adding 2-3 drops of water, grinding until mercury shows no shiny spots. Use 3 liang of lard rendered in December, melt slowly in a yin vessel, filter dregs, mix in powder to form ointment, store in porcelain box, cool, and apply sparingly.
To treat fiery sores appearing all over the body like millet or beans, with pus, itching, and pain, covering the entire body:
*Gancao* (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) *Shaoyao* (Paeoniae Radix Alba) *Bailian* (Ibani Bulbus) *Huangqin* (Scutellariae Radix) *Huanglian* (Coptidis Rhizoma, de-fibers) *Huangbai* (Phellodendri Cortex, de-ruff) *Kushen* (Sophorae Flavescentis Radix, equal parts)
Grind into fine powder, mix with honey for topical application, twice daily and once at night. Can also be made into coarse granules and decocted for washing.
To treat infant rotting sores: Red-hot iron quenched in water twenty-one times, used to bathe the affected area. Then apply hot ash from burnt mugwort. Also wipe with wine-decocted *Zuyu* (Corni Fructus). Then apply pounded peach kernels mixed with animal fat. Finally wash with decoction of adzuki beans. Within three treatments, recovery occurs.
