The normal physical appearance and demeanor of a child are: the expression is joyful and peaceful. There is no clear runny nose in the nasal cavity, nor any phlegm or saliva in the throat. The hair is black as if dyed with Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis). The lips are red and fresh like vermilion. The face is fragrant like flowers reflecting against bamboo. The cheeks bloom like water-floating lotuses. The child likes to smile when coaxed. The mouth does not open unnecessarily. Even if crying, it is not prolonged. Although sleeping, the sleep is not long-lasting. The mind is calm like still waves. The spirit is clear like the sky in a mirror. These manifestations are generally auspicious and healthy; why worry about disease entanglement?
Raising children requires careful nursing and care. One must not be negligent or lax. Excessive milk intake ultimately damages the Stomach Qi. Food stagnation injures the Spleen. Thick quilts are not beneficial; thin clothing is actually suitable. When there is no wind, frequent exposure to sunlight is recommended. Follow the natural changes of cold and heat according to the seasons.
Coldness at the tips of the five fingers indicates that fright symptoms are coming on fiercely and are difficult to withstand. If the middle finger is hot, it is definitely Shanghan (Cold Damage). If only the middle finger is cold, this is a characteristic passed down from Ma Dou (Smallpox and Measles) syndromes. For males, observe the left hand; for females, the right hand. Distinguish clearly and examine carefully. Initially, the fingerprint appears shallow at the Yin Guan (First Section). If the pattern invades the Mao position (Second Section), the condition deepens. The appearance of branches indicates untreatability. If it reaches the Chen position (Third Section) accompanied by weeping, life is hard to save.
For males left, females right. Observe the Guan sections and timing. Pinch the middle finger joint. If the tongue protrudes, death ensues. If there is pain upon inhalation, survival is possible. If unconscious for a long time, pinch the middle finger. Bite the Kunlun acupoint (BL60).
The area where the tiger's mouth crosses the hand is the Tiger's Mouth.
The Three Passes are located on the side of the second finger.
The Wind Pass is at the first section, Yin position.
The Qi Pass is at the second section, Mao position.
The Life Pass is at the third section, Chen position.

People wishing to recognize Shang Leng (Cold Injury) syndrome: three protrusions westward and three convexities eastward.
This shape indicates cold sores in ears and nose, Gan worms.
Both pulses curving indicate roundworms.
Large in the center, pointed at both ends, red color: indicates Jing Feng with fever. If penetrating all three passes, indicates Innocent Gan Ji (Wasting Syndrome), which is fatal.
Head small, tail large, yellow color: indicates injury to the Stomach by hard objects. High fever, closed eyes, or fright deviation.
Red color straight through the middle of the segment: indicates Jing Feng with convulsions. One end red, one end white is favorable.
Purple color reaching the pass indicates Gan Ji. Fatal.
Upper red, lower white, named Fire Light. Fire overcomes Metal. Circumferential passes and encounters of Five Elements overcoming each other are fatal.
This shape resembles a curved worm. At the Wind Pass, three types of Gan Ji accumulation. Protruding abdomen and large belly. At the Qi Pass, Large Intestine filth accumulation. At the Life Pass, Heart transmitting to Liver. Difficult to treat.
Whenever the pulse is not visible, and the Tiger's Mouth is cloud-dust colored, this is the pulse of Ke Wu (External Shock) and Gui Sui (Spirit Affliction). Seek divine intervention to expel it. If the pulse shows uneven size, it definitely indicates ominous signs.
Three curves penetrating the Life Pass indicate death from Jing Feng.
