(Regarding various heat syndromes and phlegm-rheum) There are ten categories in total.
Master Mao states: If an infant, fourteen days after birth, exhibits symptoms of "Zhong Tai Re" (Intermediate Fetal Heat), characterized by generalized jaundice, swelling, abdominal distension, inability to open the eyes, and moaning sounds. This condition originates from the mother taking medicine while pregnant due to physical discomfort; the fetus absorbs toxic substances in utero, leading to this syndrome. Treatment begins with washing the infant three times a day using Zi Long Shui (Purple Dragon Water). Subsequently, apply Niu Huang Gao (Calculus Bovis Ointment) to the nipple for the infant to suckle, allowing the medication to enter orally and exit via defecation (see formula in Ge Re Men category). Administer four doses daily. With such regulation, recovery occurs within three days. However, if abdominal distension persists, jaundice and swelling do not recede, the hands remain clenched, and the eyes lack luster, the condition is incurable. (The formula for Zi Long Shui is lost.)
Qian Yi discusses Tai Huang (Fetal Jaundice): Infants born with thick muscles and reddish blood color throughout the body; after one month, they gradually become emaciated, the sclera appears pinkish-red, the five centers (palms, soles, and chest) feel hot, defecation is difficult, and saliva/phlegm is frequently produced. The primary treatment is Yu Ti Fa (Body Bathing Method). He further states: Infants with Tai Qie (Fetal Deficiency) are born with a dull complexion, thin muscles, watery white stools, lack of blood luster in the body, frequent hiccupping, excessive belching, and lifeless eyes. They should also be primarily treated with Yu Ti Fa. Regarding Tai Re (Fetal Heat), infants are born with excess blood-qi, cry frequently, have high fever resembling light tea color, red eyes, dark yellow sticky stools, and show urgency in breastfeeding. The primary treatment is Yu Ti Fa. Additionally, consider the parents' body constitutions; a fat father cannot produce a thin child, nor can a thin father produce a fat child. (See Yu Ti Fa in Chu Nuo Men category.)
Master Mao's Song on Infant Fetal Heat:
The infant contracts fetal heat upon birth, with the face, eyelids, mouth, and nose all turning yellow. This is a case of Xue Cu (Blood Stasis/Death), requiring careful examination; sudden onset of illness reveals critical danger.
Ling Yuan Yin Ye Dan (Silver Liquid Pill) treats all wind syndromes and epilepsy in adults and children, including spasticity of limbs, unstable eye movements, irritability, nausea, and vomiting. It also treats pediatric fetal heat where pathogenic factors attack the Spleen and Stomach, causing variable facial complexion, watery diarrhea, and stagnation of phlegm-rheum.
Ingredients:
Hei Qian (Lead Metal, half jin, refined ten times, weigh out three liang, melt in a pot, add three liang of Shui Yin [Mercury], form cinnabar-like grains, divide into pieces, place in silk bag, boil in Gan Cao [Licorice] decoction for half a day, cool and finely grind) Tian Nan Xing (Arisaema Rhizome, three fen, powdered) Ni Fen (Calomel, one fen) Zhu Sha (Cinnabar, half liang, finely ground) Tie Fen (Iron Powder, water-washed, dried, weigh three liang).
Grind these five ingredients uniformly together. Form pills the size of mung beans using wheat paste. Take five pills each time, administered with Bo He Mi Tang (Mint Honey Decoction), at any time. For adults, form pills the size of Sophora seeds, administer with Ginger Decoction; mild laxative effect after ingestion is ideal.
Wan Quan Fang Zhu Sha Wan (Cinnabar Pill) treats pediatric fetal heat, Qi stagnation in the Heart, irritability, fever, palpitations, and fright.
Ingredients:
Tong Ming Zhu Sha (Transparent Cinnabar) Long Dan (Gentiana Root, remove roots) Huang Lian (Coptis Rhizome, each half liang) Qian Shuang (Lead Frost, added during grinding) Tie Fen (Iron Powder, finely ground, each one fen) Niu Huang (Calculus Bovis, finely ground, one qian).
