Gan-Jie Decoction (Licorice and Platycodon Decoction): Treats children with accumulated heat in the chest and diaphragm, leading to wind-phlegm generation and resulting in Hou-Bi (throat obstruction characterized by swelling and pain).
Fen-Gan-Cao (Processed Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (4 qian), Ya-Jie-Geng (Platcodonis Radix) (4 qian).
Decoct with clean water, swallow slowly.
Hua-Du Decoction (Detoxification Decoction): Treats critical and urgent throat conditions in children.
Ya-Jie-Geng (Platcodonis Radix), Nan-Bo-He (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba) (1 qian each), Jing-Jie-Sui (Schizonepetae Spica), Zhi-Gan-Cao (Prepared Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (1.5 qian each), Bai-Mang-Xiao (Mirabilite) (1 liang), Shan-Dou-Gen (Sophorae Tonkinensis Radix) (1.5 qian), Ma-Ya-Xiao (Niter), Bai-Peng-Sha (Borax) (2.5 qian each), Ming-Xiong-Huang (Realgar), Jing-Mian-Sha (Arsenicum Rubrum) (1 qian each).
Grind together into fine powder. Take 1 qian per dose, mixed with warm water, and also use this powder to insufflate into the throat.
Hai-Shang Fang (Formula from the Sea): Treats children choked by various bones.
Crush Jin-Feng-Hua Gen (Root of *Canna indica*), decoct strongly with rice vinegar. Hold the spout of a bottle containing the liquid, tilt the head back, inhale and swallow the medicine; the bone will then descend. Ensure the medicine does not touch the teeth. Alternatively, Yu-Zan-Hua Gen (Root of *Hemerocallis citrina*) can be used in the same manner.
For treating Hou-Bi (throat closure) and Ru-E (tonsillar hypertrophy), use Ji-Nei-Jin (Endothelium Corneum Gigeriae Galli), do not wash, dry in shade, calcine until "preserving nature" (partially charred but retaining efficacy), grind into powder, and insufflate into the throat using a small bamboo tube; it will break open and heal immediately. (Ji-Nei-Jin refers to the keratinized lining of the chicken gizzard.)
If sores appear inside the throat and redness/ulceration occurs inside the nostrils, treating it as Hou-Feng (wind-throat, a severe acute throat condition) will lead to immediate death. Use one Bai-Shuang-Mei (White Frost Plum) calcined until preserving nature, Ku-Fan (Alumen) (1 qian), Chuan-Shan-Jia (Pangolin Scales) roasted until scorched (1 qian), grind together into fine powder, and insufflate into the throat; miraculous effect.
If throat sores have ulcerated, causing pain at the wound site and difficulty in feeding milk or food, steam Zhu-Nao-Sui (Porcine Brain Marrow), mix with ginger and vinegar, and ingest; it will heal spontaneously.
If there are nodules (lumps) in the pharynx preventing the passage of water and food, creating a critical and desperate state, use Bai-Cao-Shuang (Soot from various herbs) mixed with honey to form pills the size of Euryale Seed (Qian-Shi). Dissolve one pill in warm water and administer; severe cases may require no more than two doses for recovery.
If a needle is accidentally swallowed, grind Ci-Shi (Magnetitum) into powder, melt Huang-La (Yellow Beeswax), mix to form pills the size of beans, and swallow. The needle will exit through the stool along with the pill.
If coins, gold/silver hairpins, etc., are accidentally swallowed, consume large amounts of Mi-Tang (rice candy); they will naturally pass out over time.
If a coin is swallowed, drink plenty of juice extracted from raw Ci-Gu (Colocasia esculenta corm); it will digest naturally. Drinking juice from raw Bi-Qi (Dioscorea opposita) is even better.
If bamboo, wood, or fish bones are swallowed causing choking, grind Xiang-Ya (Elephant Tusk) into thick juice and take orally. If an iron hook is swallowed, mix Xiang-Ya powder with rock sugar and take. To treat choking by any bone, decoct Wei-Ling-Xian (Clematidis Radix et Rhizoma) (3 qian) in water, swallow frequently; the bone will soften like cotton and descend.
For choking by any bone, hang a dog upside down to collect saliva, and feed it slowly to swallow; the bone will dissolve. Alternatively, mix half a cup of dog saliva with half a cup of rock sugar and ingest; it will dissipate immediately.
For accidental ingestion of gold, silver, copper, iron, etc., burn Yan-Lan (Salted Olive) to ash, grind into powder, mix with water, and ingest; the object will be expelled. This formula has proven effective many times.
For choking by any bone, crush Gu-Shu Ye (Leaves of *Trema orientalis*) to extract juice and ingest; the bone will soften and pass naturally. This is because Wei-Ling-Xian, Gu-Shu Ye, and Chu-Shi Zi (Fructus Cudraniae Tricuspidae) all possess the property of softening bones.
