Whenever children contract malaria, there is often pathogenic qi within the body. It is necessary to frequently burn sandalwood (Santalum album) to ward off evil influences, and to fumigate their clothing and swaddling clothes with its smoke; once the foul odor is removed, the pathogen can be easily eliminated.
Medicines for malaria must be exposed to dew, because malaria is caused by summerheat pathogen (Shu Xie), while dew possesses a desiccating and killing nature. *Xingli Daquan* states that fog belongs to Yang and dew belongs to Yin; fog generates life, whereas dew kills life. Thus, it can be understood that when summerheat encounters dew, it dissipates.
When patients with malaria experience thirst, they must absolutely avoid drinking cold water, cold tea, or any raw/cold foods. Violating this rule will exacerbate the condition. Instead, ginger decoction should be consumed while hot. This is an excellent method.
When the fever of malaria has not completely subsided, food intake must be strictly prohibited. One must wait until the heat has entirely disappeared before allowing feeding. Otherwise, it may eventually lead to *Pi Ji* (accumulations or masses in the abdomen).
When administering medicines intended to arrest malaria attacks, one must wait until after the expected time of onset, provided no attack occurs, before giving rice gruel. If eaten too early, the malaria will certainly recur, rendering subsequent anti-malarial medications ineffective.
**Qingxie Zhmie Fang** (Formulation for Clearing Evil and Arresting Malaria, formulated by Li Shicai):
Shengma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae) and Chaihu (Radix Bupleuri), each 2 qian, lift the clear Yang upward, distancing it from the Yin, thereby stopping chills; Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) and Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), each 1.5 qian, guide the Yin downward, distancing it from the Yang, thereby resolving heat. Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), 3 qian, expels pathogens and restores righteousness; Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), 0.5 qian, harmonizes Yin and Yang. After two or three doses, the disease will cease spontaneously.
**Sishen Jiu** (Four Spirits Wine):
Treats persistent malaria that does not stop; one dose arrests it permanently without recurrence. Use Changshan (Dichroae Radix), 1.5 qian; Binglang (Arecae Semen), 1 qian; Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos), 0.5 qian; Wumei (Mume Fructus), one piece; mixed with more than half a bowl of good wine, slightly boiled, and left exposed overnight. On the day of the attack, take on an empty stomach while cold.
Phlegm-fluid retention is essential for the formation of malaria; thus, malaria patients often accumulate phlegm and fluid overflow. Changshan can break down phlegm and drive out fluids, hence its efficacy in arresting malaria. However, it must be used only after releasing exterior pathogens and when extracting pathogens from the Yang level, ensuring effectiveness. When taking Changshan, never take it hot; exposing it overnight is ideal. Hot administration causes vomiting; raw administration also causes vomiting; taking it with Gancao also causes vomiting. For patients with severe deficiency, caution is required, and it should not be administered rashly.
Pediatric "Evil Malaria" presents with irregular timing, unpredictable dates, varying lateness or earliness, and intermittent presence or absence of symptoms. This is named Evil Malaria. Take Moschus (She Xiang), 5 li, grind it together with high-quality Jingmo (Beijing Ink), and write the characters "Expel Evil and Ward Off Demons" on the forehead. This is effective.
For pediatric Heat Malaria characterized by fever without chills, use Shanjiachuan (Manis Squama), 1 liang, and large red dates (Dazao), ten pieces. Roast them until they retain their essence but are carbonized externally, then powder them. Each time, take 1 qian, and on the morning of the attack during the fifth watch (Wugeng), mix with plain warm water and ingest.
For pediatric persistent malaria that does not stop, use large softshell turtle shell (Biejia). Small shells are not used. Calcine it with vinegar until dry and brittle, then powder it. Take 1 qian or 1.5 qian: once the night before, once in the early morning, and once just before the anticipated attack. There are cases where it fails to cure.
When malaria presents with more chills than fever and loss of appetite, use Liangjiang (Alpiniae Officinarum Rhizoma), 1 liang stir-fried in sesame oil, and Paojiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Preparatum), 1 liang. Grind them into powder. Take 2 qian each time, mixed with pig bile (Dan) into a paste, and take with hot wine at the time of onset. Alternatively, mix the powder with pig bile to form pills the size of a corn kernel. Take seven pills each time, washed down with wine, which is also excellent. The gallbladder belongs to Wood of the Jia phase, utilizing its property to guide the medicine into the Shaoyang channel.
