Yihuang San (Benefit Spleen Powder): Treats pediatric spleen gan and diarrhea.
Ingredients: Chen Jupi (Aged Tangerine Peel) (1 liang), Qingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride), Hezi rou (Terminaliae Fructus meat), Zhi Gancao (Licorice Root, roasted) (each 0.5 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Crush into coarse powder. Take 2 qian per dose, add 1 cup of water, decoct until reduced to 60%, and take warm before meals.
Ejiao San (Donkey-Hide Gelatin Powder): Treats pediatric lung gan cough.
Ingredients: Ming Ejiao (Transparent Donkey-Hide Gelatin) (1.5 liang, stir-fried with flour), Shuniu zi (Arnebiae Semen seu Lithospermi Semen) (0.1 fen, stir-fried), Madouling (Aristolochiae Fructus), Zhi Gancao (Licorice Root, roasted) (1 qian), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum) (7 pieces, peeled and tips removed), Nuomi (Glutinous Rice) (1 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Add 1 cup of water, decoct, and take before meals.
Tongqing San (Chalcanthite Powder): Treats pediatric zouma gan (gangrenous stomatitis), characterized by sores in the mouth, gum ulceration, blackening and loosening of teeth, or discharge of purple blood.
Ingredients: Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) (0.5 liang), Yanxiao (Natrii Nitras) (1 qian), Tongqing (Chalcanthite) (0.1 fen), Shexiang (Musk) (1 zi).
Preparation and Administration: Grind into fine powder. Apply dry powder directly to the corners of the mouth and rub onto teeth. Highly effective.
Fei'er Wan (Fat Child Pill): Treats various gan syndromes. Often caused by lack of breast milk, early introduction of solid foods, or prolonged illness leading to deficiency of zang-fu and stomach qi, causing worms to move. Symptoms include gradual emaciation, distended abdomen with visible veins, inability to walk or stand, erect hair, fever, and lackluster complexion.
Ingredients: Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Shenqu (Massa Medicata Fermentata) (each 1 liang, stir-fried), Maiya (Hordei Fructus Germinatus) (0.5 liang, stir-fried), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix) (2.5 qian), Binglang (Arecae Semen) (2 pieces), Roudoukou (Myristicae Semen) (processed), Shijunzi (Quisqualis Fructus) (each 0.5 liang, soaked in wine and peeled).

He Pi Wan (Toad Skin Pill - Note: Text describes using whole toad): Treats pediatric wuguo gan and other gan syndromes. One dose reduces deficient heat; two doses stop thirst; three doses stop diarrhea and dysentery.
Ingredients: Chan Chu (Bufo bufo gargarizans or Bufo melanostictus) (1 piece, taken from ditches in summer, large belly, non-jumping, non-calling, skin covered with warts).
Preparation and Administration: Place a scoop of "qu feces insects" (likely referring to specific larvae or maggots used in traditional preparation) into a bucket. Submerge the toad in the bucket. Keep the bucket dry to prevent insects from escaping. Allow the toad to consume the insects for one day and night. Next day, wrap tightly in a new cloth bag, suspend in fast-flowing water overnight. Remove, dry on tiles, grind into powder. Add 1 zi of Shexiang (Musk). Mix with rice paste to form pills the size of hemp seeds. Take 20-30 pills per dose, washed down with rice water. This pill has been prepared many times and cured numerous people without exception.
Shi Jin Dan (Ten Gold Pellets): Treats pediatric ding xi bu lu (severe gan syndrome with abdominal distension and malnutrition).
Ingredients: Qingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride), Chenpi (Aged Tangerine Peel), Ezhu (Curcumae Rhizoma) (baked), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Wulingzhi (Tardigrada), Baidoukou (Cardamomi Fructus), Binglang (Arecae Semen), Lusu (Aloe) (each 2 liang); Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Shijunzi (Quisqualis Fructus), Xama (Toad) (each 2 qian, roasted).
Preparation and Administration: Grind into fine powder, bind with pig bile-soaked rice cake paste to form pills the size of hemp seeds. Take 20 pills per dose, washed down with rice water. If there is heat, use mint decoction.
Bie Xue Jian (Turtle Blood Decoction/Pill): Treats pediatric gan lao (consumptive gan syndrome).
Ingredients: Wuyi (Praecognacae Fructus), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) (each 1 liang); Renshen (Ginseng Radix) (0.5 liang); Shijunzi (Quisqualis Fructus) (20 pieces); Hu Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma var. chinense), Chuan Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) (each 2 qian).
Preparation and Administration: Take 1 cup of Bie Xue (Turtle Blood), mix with 1 liang of Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus), and soak the two types of Huanglian overnight. The next morning, stir-fry until dry, remove Wuzhuyu, and keep only the powder of the two Huanglians. Mix with other herbs, grind into powder, bind with millet paste to form pills the size of hemp seeds. Take 20 pills per dose before meals, washed down with plain boiled water.
Danxi Formula 1: Treats pediatric gan ji (accumulation) or abdominal distension. Uses Hu Huanglian to clear gan accumulation; some say it clears fruit accumulation. Awei (Asini Corii Colla) clears meat accumulation, soaked in wine overnight, 0.5 fen each. Shenqu (Massa Medicata Fermentata) stir-fried to clear food accumulation, Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) stir-fried to clear heat accumulation, 2 qian each. Shexiang (Musk) (4 grains). Bind with pig bile to form pills the size of hemp seeds. Take 30 pills per dose, washed down with plain boiled water. Another version adds Lusu (Aloe).
Formula 2: Treats pediatric gan syndrome. Uses Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Shanzha (Crataegi Fructus) (each 5 qian), Hu Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma var. chinense), Lusu (Aloe) (each 3 qian), Wuyi (Praecognacae Fructus) (1.5 qian), Shenqu (Massa Medicata Fermentata) (4 qian). Grind into powder, bind with pig bile to form pills the size of millet seeds, washed down with plain boiled water.
Medical Case: A wealthy boy had a yellowish complexion, ate voraciously, felt hungry easily, refused food unless it was meat, and suffered from diarrhea for one month. His pulse was large. It was initially considered damp-heat causing spleen dysfunction and poor appetite. However, he appeared robust despite eating much and not feeling thirsty, indicating gan worms. Examination of stool confirmed the presence of worms. After deworming treatment, he recovered. Early next summer, he suffered diarrhea again, without pain but with dry mouth. I stated, "Previously, you treated the worms but not the gan. Now, use herbs that clear gan heat, administered with Baizhu Tang." He recovered in three days. Subsequently, Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) was used as the sovereign herb, Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) as the minister herb, combined with Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Chenpi (Aged Tangerine Peel), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Hu Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma var. chinense), and Lusu (Aloe), formed into pills, and taken with Baizhu Tang. Meat and melons were prohibited to prevent recurrence.
