Wind-toxin arises after convulsions, where wind follows the qi and blood follows the qi, causing toxic vapors to accumulate in the skin, flow, and condense into swelling and toxicity, eventually forming stubborn nodules that are red in color. These typically occur between the cheeks or at the roots of the ears and joints. In severe cases, they develop into carbuncles (carbuncle) or boils (boil), which is called "Dun Du" (hidden toxin). For treating wind-toxin, it is appropriate to use Baijie San (Hundred-Resolution Powder) or Danggui San (Angelica Sinensis Powder), doubling the dosage of Zhike (Bitter Orange Fruit) and Dahuang (Rhubarb Root), or adding herbs such as Zaocis Spina (Zaojiaoci) and Bohe (Mint Leaf). If the nodule is located in the cheek area, treat with Wu Chi Gao (Black Bean Paste) to protect the throat, and externally apply Fudu San (Toxin-Removing Powder) or Waixiao San (External-Resolving Powder). If caused by falls or blows breaking the skin, allowing wind-pathogens to invade the wound and cause swelling at the injury site, this is called "Po Xue Shang Feng" (broken-blood wind-injury); one may administer Shufeng San (Wind-Dispersing Powder), Huoxue San (Blood-Invigorating Powder), Huangqin (Scutellaria Root), or Siwu Tang (Four-Substance Decoction).
Zeng stated: Within 100 days after birth, or after six months of age, infants may suddenly present with red halos slightly raised on both eyelids, a complexion with cyanotic-dark hues, nighttime irritability and crying, or cheeks red like rouge; this indicates latent heat within. There are also cases where the cheeks are not red. Initially, during gestation, the mother suffered severe fright, damaging fetal qi, which was transmitted across generations. After birth, exposure to heat-toxins or further fright and heat causes internal accumulation of hot qi, manifesting externally. Initially, it scatters over the entire face, resembling chickenpox, with slightly red bases but without high fever; its appearance and disappearance are irregular. When it reaches the neck and nape, turning red like cinnabar, it is named Jing Dan (Fright Erysipelas). First, wash the affected area with Sisheng San (Four-Sages Powder), then use Baijie San to resolve fright-heat and erysipelas. If the erysipelas is severe, use Siwu Tang added with Huangqin (Scutellaria Root). If the fright erysipelas spreads to the chest, diaphragm, and breast area, accompanied by slight phlegm-wheeze and pain, urgently disperse and extract toxins to prevent internal spread and significant harm; use Hehe Tang (Harmonizing Decoction) added with Gegen (Kudzu Root), Sheng Dihuang (Rehmannia Root), and Dengxincao (Juncus Effusus Pith). With such treatment, no other complications will arise; Wanan Yin (Ten-Thousand-Safety Infusion) can be administered as the main treatment.
