Males are governed by Yang Qi. Following the nature of Fire, they are active in movement. Movement generates all Yang energies. Females are governed by Yin Qi. Following the nature of Water, they are tranquil in stillness. Stillness gathers all Yin energies. Therefore, when treating males, one should not excessively use warm and hot herbs to assist their Yang; when treating females, one should not excessively use cold and cool herbs to benefit their Yin. In ancient times, herbs such as Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) and Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma) were often used for males, while formulas containing Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) and Aiye (Artemisiae Argyi Folium) were applied cautiously to women. The natural constitutions of male and female Yin and Yang inherently differ and cannot be treated identically. However, regarding internal injuries from the Seven Emotions (Joy, Anger, Worry, Thought, Sorrow, Fear, Fright) and external invasions by the Six Excesses (Wind, Cold, Summer-heat, Dampness, Dryness, Fire) that manifest as various diseases, heat is treated with cold, and cold is treated with heat, shifting according to the syndrome. How can one rigidly adhere to these principles? Nevertheless, if conception is slightly delayed, even without disease, regulation and care should be added. Males, being Yang-active in constitution, worry about premature ejaculation during intercourse, failing to hit the critical point for conception. Females, being Yin-still in constitution, often suffer from infertility despite intercourse, unable to complete the process of generation. Thus, methods of nurturing the body cannot be abandoned. For males, Sixian Dan (Thought Immortal Pill) is used to consolidate and secure True Yin, planning for endurance. For females, Qirong Wan (Prosperity Initiating Pill) is used to stimulate slight Yang, laying the foundation for development. Observing ancient and modern formulas for seed-conception, none avoid bias towards either cold or heat; they strive to exaggerate their efficacy to boast before the world, without analyzing the principles to show others. Often, taking them leads to criticism for seeking perfection but failing. Therefore, I record these two formulas to assist those seeking offspring in the world.
Auspicious Days for Vigor:
Spring: Jia, Yi, Yin, Mao days; Summer: Bing, Ding, Si, Wu days; Autumn: Geng, Xin, Shen, You days; Winter: Ren, Gui, Hai, Zi days.
Taboo: First quarter moon, full moon, last day of lunar month, first day of lunar month. Strong winds, heavy rain, rainbows, thunderstorms, cloudy/foggy darkness, solar/lunar eclipses. Under the light of the Sun, Moon, and Stars. Also, Bing and Ding days in Spring, Autumn, and Winter. One's birth year is also a day of toil and labor, and intercourse should not occur. One must be cautious regarding the above.
[Image: Diagram of Solid Yang Entering Empty Yin]
"Solid Yang entering Empty Yin" refers to the situation where the male's Yang essence is substantial, coinciding with the female's post-menstrual state where the Blood Sea is empty and quiet, and the uterus is open. Intercourse at this time is termed "casting into emptiness," resulting in conception in one act.
Intercourse on the first day after menstruation ends results in a male child; on the second day, a female; third day, male; fourth day, female; fifth day, male; sixth day, female. This follows the principle of odd numbers being Yang and even numbers being Yin. The sixth day is useless. Generally, in the first three days, new blood is not yet abundant; essence surpasses blood, and blood opens to wrap essence, inevitably forming a male fetus. In the latter three days, new blood gradually grows; blood surpasses essence, and essence opens to wrap blood, mostly forming a female fetus. Intercourse occurring after midnight, during the time of generating Qi, results in sons who are male and long-lived.
[Image: Diagram of Solid Yin Unable to Receive Yang]
"Solid Yin unable to receive Yang" refers to the period six days after the end of menstruation, when new blood is vigorous and the Blood Sea is full. If intercourse occurs then, it is "solid meeting solid," and conception rarely happens. Additionally, some women have a naturally weak constitution; even ten days after menstruation, if the Blood Sea is not full, conception may still occur, but it will likely result in a daughter, again because blood surpasses essence.
[Image: Diagram of Weak Yin Unable to Grasp Yang]
"Weak Yin unable to grasp Yang" refers to the condition where the female's Yin blood is weak. Even if strong Yang essence is introduced, it cannot be grasped by the uterus. Thus, intercourse fails to produce pregnancy, or pregnancy fails to sustain fetal development. This is often caused by improper management after illness, postpartum, or post-menstruation, excessive labor, and depletion of Yin blood. Treatment should focus on regulating menstruation and nourishing blood.
[Image: Diagram of Slight Yang Unable to Shoot Yin]
"Slight Yang unable to shoot Yin" refers to the condition where the male's Yang essence is meager. Even if he encounters the female's post-menstrual empty and quiet state, the essence flows out without ejaculating, and conception rarely occurs. This is due to immoderate desires and excessive emission in daily life. The method is to tonify and benefit the Jing Yuan (Essence Origin), combine with mental cultivation practices to prevent reckless movement, wait until Yang essence is substantial, and then apply the method of "casting into emptiness" to achieve conception in one act.
If the Chi pulse (both wrists) is surging or rapid, urine is frequently red, erection occurs before intercourse, ejaculation occurs immediately upon intercourse, or there is spontaneous emission or nocturnal emission, indicating unstable True Essence, treatment lies in nourishing Yin.
If the Chi pulse is faint or slow, urine is frequently clear, erectile dysfunction occurs, forced intercourse leads to impotence before completion, or the emitted fluid is clear, cold, and meager, treatment lies in tonifying Yang.
