What is the cause of damage to the pupil (Tongshen, the pupil and its internal structures) by foreign objects? The answer is: If the Tongshen is not ruptured, it is appropriate to administer Tuixue San (Blood-Removing Powder). Additionally, Ruiren Wan (Prunus Persica Seed Pill) should be taken. (Note: The formula for Tuixue San was not recorded in Question 32; could it refer to Tongxue San from Question 28? The characters "Tong" and "Tui" may have been confused due to similar shapes, so this remains a point of doubt.)
Ruiren Wan
Ru Ren (Shelled and oil-extracted, 6 liang), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 1 liang), Shijueming (Haliotidis Concha, calcined, 1 liang), Yuanjingshi (Calcitum, calcined, 2 liang).
Grind all ingredients into powder. Take one black sheep liver, scrape off the fascia with a bamboo knife, slice it, and bake it dry on a tile until powdered. Mix this liver powder with the aforementioned medicinal powders, use rice paste as a binder to form pills. Take 70 pills each time, delivered with tea water. For severe cases, improvement will be seen within no more than one month.
Why do the upper and lower eyelids become swollen and hard, failing to recede with medication, and why does manual therapy fail? The answer is: Manual therapy should be applied five to seven times, and Shengma Gegen Tang (Bupleurum and Kudzu Root Decoction) should be administered.
Shengma Gegen Tang
Shengma (Leonuri Herba), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix).
Decoct in water and take orally.
Why does the eye lose the ability to distinguish black and white, appearing entirely dark? The answer is: This is caused by Wind-Evil invading the Liver and Kidney. It is appropriate to apply Zhenzhu Hu Ye Gao (Pearl Tiger Liquid Ointment) topically and consume Mingmu Dihuang Wan (Liver-Brightening Rehmannia Pill) (Formula see Question 48).
Why are there purple fleshy growths filling the eye socket? The answer is: This is due to Deficient-Heat in the Lung and Liver. Wood of the Liver generates Fire of the Heart, causing Blood to invade the eyes. The pathological tissues in the upper and lower eyelids should be removed using manual techniques. It is appropriate to apply Tuiyun San (Cloud-Pushing Powder) topically (Formula see Question 14), and consume Xiefei San (Lung-Draining Powder) (Formula see Question 3) and Budan San (Gallbladder-Nourishing Powder) (Formula see Question 4. Note: The character "Fei" [Lung] in Xiefei San is suspected to be a typo for "Gan" [Liver].)
Why do white, cotton-like spots appear in the eye? The answer is: This indicates that the Metal energy of the Lung fails to ascend and correspond to the eye. This occurs because the Spleen and Stomach are too weak to generate Lung Metal, compounded by excessive Heart Fire scorching the Lung Metal. This causes Qi to rise and scatter, circulating into the eye. It is appropriate to consume Bufei San (Lung-Supplementing Powder) (Formula see Question 7), apply Tuiyun San topically (Formula see Question 14), and consume Pingwei San (Stomach-Pacifying Powder).
Xixin San (The formula for Xixin San is not found in the methods section; it differs significantly from the Xixin San in Questions 5 and 7. Speculating on the ingredients, it seems inappropriate to name it Xixin San; there must be an error. The original text is retained with doubt.)
Huangqi (Astragali Radix, honey-fried), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Shengma (Leonuri Herba), Jingjie (Schizonepetae Spica), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix).
Decoct in water and take orally.
Pingwei San
Heidou (Sojae Semen Nigrum, stir-fried), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Gouqi (Lycii Fructus), Bai Chou (Cantharidis Granulum), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix).
