What is the reason for eye pain occurring both day and night? The answer is: It is caused by the excess of Yang-toxic Qi. The Classics state: "When the body is at rest, Blood and Qi decline; pathogenic factors enter the Yang meridians, and Cold Evil attacks them, thus causing pain throughout the day and night." It is appropriate to administer Bo Yun Wan (Cloud-Pushing Pill).
Bo Yun Wan (Cloud-Pushing Pill)
Tribuli Fructus (Stir-fried, thorns removed), Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix (Qianghuo), Angelicae Pubescentis Radix (Duhuo), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng), Rehmanniae Radix Recens (Sheng Dihuang), Schizonepetae Spica (Jingjie), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui), Ophistogermi Periostracum (Shetui), Lonicerae Japonicae Flos (Jinyinhua), Cicadae Periostracum (Chantui), Paeoniae Radix Rubra (Chishao), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao)
Decoct in water and take orally.
What is the reason for eye pain occurring only at noon? The answer is: It is caused by the excess of Yang Qi. The Classics state: "Yin governs stillness, therefore Yang becomes excessive." When Yang-Fire is excessive, it peaks at noon; encountering Yang Qi causes pain, thus indicating Yin deficiency.
It is appropriate to administer Xi Xin San (Heart-Washing Powder). (The formula is seen in Question 2 and Question 5. The formulas for Question 2 and Question 5 are different; I recommend those with mild conditions take the formula from Question 2, and those with severe conditions take the formula from Question 5, suggesting a distinction.)
What is the cause of turbid discharge and a white membrane on the eye? The answer is: It is caused by Heat affecting Lung Metal. Excess Blood generates Heat, while Excess Qi generates Cold. When Lung Qi is excessive, a membrane forms; white is the root color of the Lung. When the Lung is invaded by Wind Evil, the pathogen floats and scatters into the eyes, resulting in a white membrane obscuring vision. It is appropriate to apply Hu Ye Gao (Tiger Liquid Ointment) and take Si Shun Yin (Four-Harmony Decoction). (Si Shun Yin is not prescribed here; it is likely Si Shun Qing Liang San [Four-Harmony Cooling Clearing Decoction] from Question 14; this remains in doubt.)
What is the cause of a spiral-shaped protrusion on the eye? The answer is: It is an accumulation (Ji). Accumulation is the toxic flow from the Zang-Fu organs that attacks the exterior and manifests in the eyes. Blood coagulates in the Liver, representing an accumulation of Wood (Liver element). It is appropriate to administer Chan Tui Wu Bi San (Cicada Slough Peerless Powder) and apply Tui Yun San (Cloud-Pushing Powder). (The formula is seen in Question 14.)
Chan Tui Wu Bi San (Cicada Slough Peerless Powder)
