Treats fever caused by pathogenic factors in the Yangming channel (Yangming meridian syndrome), and the initial stage of smallpox/rash.
Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 1 qian) Gegen (Puerariae Radix, 1.5 qian each with Baishao) Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, 1.5 qian each with Gegen) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, roasted, 8 fen).
The above four ingredients are decocted in water and taken warm. Shengma and Gegen serve as guiding herbs for the Yangming channel. The Yangming channel primarily governs the muscles. To prevent excessive opening and sweating, Baishao is used to astringe and protect Ying blood (nutritive blood). Gancao harmonizes the middle Qi (middle jiao energy). Thus, they are specific remedies for resolving heat pathogens in this channel and treating epidemic rashes/smallpox. However, they are contraindicated after the rash has begun to swell.
Qinqiang Shengma Decoction: Treats facial deviation of the mouth and eyes due to wind-stroke.
Add Qinqiang (Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), and Congbai (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus) to Shengma Tang.
Shengyang Sanhuo Decoction: Treats conditions where weak Stomach Qi combined with excessive consumption of cold foods suppresses and stagnates Yang Qi within the Spleen earth, resulting in aversion to cold and fever. The treatment principle follows "disperse fire when it is stagnant."
Add Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), and Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) to Shengma Tang. Use raw Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma).
Huoyu Decoction: Treats stagnant fire that fails to circulate freely, characterized by persistent severe aversion to cold.
Use raw Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) in Shengma Tang, adding Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), and Congbai (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus). Note: This formula is identical to Shengyang Sanhuo Decoction but without Qianghuo, Duhuo, and Renshen, and with added Congbai. As stated in the *Neijing* (Inner Canon), the aversion to cold here is not due to external cold, but to stagnant fire; thus, the method is to disperse the stagnation.
Chonghe Shunqi Decoction: Treats internal injury to Spleen Qi, manifesting as aversion to cold and fever, poor appetite, and loose stools.
Add Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), and Dazao (Jujubae Fructus) to Shengma Tang.
Shengyang Buzhi Decoction: Treats insufficient Stomach Qi and sinking of Spleen Qi, presenting with shortness of breath, weakness, intermittent fever, post-prandial restlessness after breakfast requiring sleep, and five-palm heat (heat sensation in the palms, soles, and chest).
Remove Gegen (Puerariae Radix) from Shengma Tang, and add Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), and Dazao (Jujubae Fructus).

Add Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Niuxibang (Arctii Fructus), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis), Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba), Xincaogen (Junci Medulla), and Zhuye (Bambulae Folium) to Shengma Tang.
