When Kidney pathogenic factors invade the Heart, the Heart becomes diseased first, and the Kidney responds subsequently; such are the manifestations of facial color changes. In men, if black color appears on the Mianwang (tip of the nose), it indicates abdominal pain in the great abdomen; lower down, it manifests as testicular pain. If the blackness is circular and straight downward, it indicates penile pain; the elevated part corresponds to the root, and the depressed part to the head, which belongs to the category of Huhan (Fox Hernia) affecting the yin organs. In women, if black color appears on the Mianwang, it indicates diseases of the Bladder and Zi Chu (uterus); a scattered color indicates pain, while a consolidated color indicates accumulation (Ju). Regardless of whether the shape is round, square, left, or right, it corresponds to the form of the black color. If the blackness extends downward connecting to the Renzhong (philtrum), it indicates injury to the middle jiao causing damp-heat discharge (Linlu). If the tip of the nose is black, lustrous, floating, and bright like applied ointment, it indicates gluttony with unclean food (i.e., "Jiongfeng," mentioned by Cang Gong). If the red color is large like elm seeds and appears on the Mianwang, it indicates amenorrhea (from *Neijing*).
If the nose tip is green, it indicates abdominal pain; if accompanied by aversion to cold, it is a fatal condition. If the nose tip is slightly black, it indicates water qi retention; if yellow, it indicates cold in the chest; if white, it indicates loss of blood. If a slight redness appears out of season, it is a fatal condition. If the eyes are fixed straight open, it indicates Jing disease (spasm), which is difficult to treat. (This sentence follows up on the previous context regarding severe conditions, not specifically discussing eye diseases.) Furthermore, green color indicates pain, black indicates exhaustion/labor, red indicates wind, yellow indicates difficulty in defecation, and bright/shiny color indicates retained fluid (Liu Yin). (The last five sentences do not specifically discuss nose color; from Zhang Zhongjing.)
If yellow color appears on the nose, dry and lifeless like a clay idol, it indicates the extinction of Spleen Qi, which is fatal. If the color resembles osmanthus flowers mixed with black halos, it is merely a Spleen disease, manifesting as poor appetite, lethargy of the four limbs, and burdens from family matters. (See previous text.)
If the nose tip is black and dry, it indicates sexual exhaustion; if black-yellow and shiny, it indicates blood stasis; if red, it indicates Lung heat. Dry nostrils, closed eyes, rinsing mouth but not swallowing water indicate impending epistaxis. Nostrils black like soot and dry indicate Yang Du (Yang Toxin). Flaring nostrils indicate Lung Qi extinction. Blackness without flaring or panting indicates dry-heat binding in the Large Intestine. Yellow-black and withered indicates Spleen fire exhausting body fluids. Dry stool, nasal congestion, and turbid discharge indicate Wind-Heat. Cold, slippery, and black nostrils indicate Yin Du (Yin Toxin). Sweat beads forming on the nose tip indicate extreme pain of the Heart and Spleen. (From Shi Wan's *YiTong*.)
