好酒浸透用。血虚者禁用。
Slightly acrid, neutral. Clears the Lung and cools the blood, dissipates heat and detoxifies. Reduces swelling, discharges pus, and relieves pain. Combined with carbonized Lotus Seedpod (Nelumbinis Nelumbofernum), it treats persistent menstrual bleeding. Mixed with raw powder of red adzuki bean (Vigna angularis) and honey, pounded and applied topically to treat all kinds of sores and toxins.
(Change frequently while keeping the head intact.)
Either pounded fresh or dried in shade and ground into powder for use.
Roots, leaves, and bark
Treat conditions same as the flower.
Bitter, slightly acrid, warm. Enters the Blood aspect. Treats wind in the intestines with lower rectal bleeding, vomiting, coughing up blood, and epistaxis. Ground into powder and mixed with sesame oil, applied to burns from scalding or fire. Mixed with child's urine, ginger juice, and wine for oral administration, it can substitute for Curcuma Aromatica Rhizome (Yujin).
Select the red ones, dry in shade for use.
Sweet, neutral, slightly cold. Enters the Foot Jueyin Meridian. Removes dryness-heat in the Liver, eliminates red veins in wind-eye disorders, and is also applicable for treating blindness (Qingming) and trachoma caused by infantile malnutrition attacking the eyes. Combined with Phellodendron Root (Chuanbai), it treats corneal opacity. Soaked in wine, taken out, sun-dried, and steamed with honey for use.
(Six types of wood-related substances)
Synergistic with Licorice Root (Gancao), Saposhnikovia Root (Fangfeng), Peony Root (Shaoyao), Ophiopogon Tuber (Maidong), and Purple Fluorspar (Zishiyinqing), it nourishes the five Zang organs. Iris Tatarica Rhizome (Malin) acts as its guide drug. Incompatible with Sanguisorba Root (Diyu), Gentian Root (Qinjiao), Montia fontana (Mumeng), Tortoise Shell (Guijia), and Realgar (Xionghuang). Detested by Ampelopsis Radix (Bailian). Contraindicated with rice vinegar and sour foods.
Sweet, bland, neutral. Enters the Qi aspect of the Hand and Foot Shaoyin, Taiyin, and Taiyang meridians. Its nature moves upward and downward, unblocking Heart Qi to communicate with the Kidney, opening the interstices (Couli), and benefiting the Spleen and Stomach. Eliminates nausea and vomiting, stops diarrhea, reduces edema, and promotes urination. Removes painful knots below the heart, fullness and irritability, dry mouth, clears accumulated heat in the uterus, bi-syndrome pain in the waist and knees, as well as seminal emission, turbid stranguria, urinary incontinence, and leukorrhea; generally all can be treated. (Because it can facilitate the pivot of the three Yin meridians, thus treatment is suitable for all.) Synergistic with Ginseng Root (Renshen), it unblocks Stomach Yang. Synergistic with Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome (Baizhu), it expels Spleen water. Synergistic with Mugwort Leaf (Aiye), it stops cardiac sweating. Synergistic with Pinellia Tuber (Banxia), it treats phlegm-fluid retention. Synergistic with Aucklandia Root (Muxiang), it treats persistent dysentery. Combined with beeswax (Huangla), it treats turbid seminal emission and leukorrhea. As the sovereign herb with Coptis Rhizome (Chuanlian) and Trichosanthes Root (Huafen), it treats thirst due to excess above and deficiency below. Added with Cinnabar (Zhusha), it calms the Heart and frightens the spirit. (It can drain heat from the Heart Meridian, thus it can treat fright.)
Remove the peel. To tonify Yin, mix with human milk and steam. To promote urination, use raw. To tonify the Spleen, stir-fry for use. When ground finely and put into water, the floating part is its fascia; accidental ingestion damages the eyes. Contraindicated in cases of upper heat with Yang deficiency (deficient Yang floating upward causes heat), Qi deficiency with sinking, Heart and Kidney deficiency-cold, excessive sweating with Blood deficiency, fluid depletion with dry mouth, Yin deficiency with sinking, and when measles/rubella pustules are filling with pus.
Strange condition: The ten finger joints are broken and damaged, only connected by tendons, without joint flesh, worms like rush pith emerge, several inches long, covered with green curly hair all over the body, named "Blood Remainder" (Xueyu). Decocting Poria (Fuling) and Picrorhiza Rhizome (Huhuanglian) in water and drinking it cures this.
Bark
Specifically promotes water metabolism, treats edema and abdominal distension. (Swelling with irritability and thirst belongs to Yang Water, suitable for Five-Bark Decoction (Wupi Yin). If loose stools without thirst, it belongs to Yin Water, suitable for fortifying the Spleen, not for promoting urination.) Combined with Pepper Seed (Jiaomu), it treats edema with difficult urination.
Red Poria (Chifuling)
Sweet, bland, neutral. Enters the Qi aspect of the Hand Shaoyin and Taiyang meridians. Specifically drains damp-heat.
Poria with Pine Root (Fushen)
Those growing embracing pine roots.
Synergies, guides, incompatibilities, detestations, and contraindications are the same as White Poria.
Main indications are the same as Poria, but Fushen has more application for entering the Heart. It treats Heart deficiency with forgetfulness, treats deficiency vertigo, and calms the Spirit. Compared to the bland and draining nature of Poria, it is slightly inferior, yet it still belongs to draining and leaching substances; those with no Heart fire but dry mouth should not use it lightly. Synergistic with Juncus Effusus (Dengcao), it drains Heart fire. Combined with Gold/Silver, it calms fright and palpitations. Combined with Bamboo Shavings (Zhuru), it benefits fright-phlegm. Assisted by Agarwood (Chenxiang), it dissipates Yin qi. Guided by Polygala Root (Yuanzhi), it expels Heart pathogens. Guided by Acorus Rhizome (Changpu), it disperses Heart qi.
Remove peel and wood for use. Fearing dryness, mix with human milk and steam.
Yellow Pine Joint (Huangsongjie)
Which is the wood inside Fushen.
Bitter, warm. Treats bone wind, heals forgetfulness, stops joint pain, and removes dampness in the blood. Combined with Frankincense (Ruxiang) and Papaya (Mugua), it treats tendon spasms and pain.
Soak thoroughly in good wine for use. Contraindicated in Blood deficiency.
