Abalone (i.e., dried fish): Pungent, foul-smelling, warm. Treats traumatic injuries and amenorrhea in women.
Turtle Shell: Salty, cold. Primarily treats blood stasis due to labor damage after childbirth in women; and erysipelas (a type of acute skin infection) in children. When combined with Water Chestnut (*Eleocharis tuberosa*), decocted for juice, it treats lower abdominal pain caused by Liver Qi stagnation, as well as various masses and intestinal parasites. It should be rinsed to remove the properties of lime and alum.
Turtle Meat: Sweet, warm. Tonifies Stomach Qi, benefits essence, strengthens Yang, and treats impotence.
(Note: This refers to three types within the Testudines family.)
Turtle Shell is averse to Dog Gallbladder. It dislikes *Ginseng Radix* (Sha Shen) and Cockroach (*Blatta orientalis*). Sweet, slightly salty, neutral. Enters the Blood aspect of the Foot Shaoyin Kidney Meridian. Unblocks blood vessels, treats steaming bone fever. Treats blood stasis in the waist and legs, and masses formed by Malaria pathogens. Combined with human hair, *Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome* (Chuanxiong), and *Angelica Sinensis Radix* (Danggui), it treats difficult labor. Combined with *Aurantii Fructus Immaturus* (Zhi Ke), it opens the birth canal. Combined with *Eucommia Bark* (Duzhong), it stops diarrhea and dysentery. Combined with Turtle Plastron (Bie Ban), calcined and ground into powder, it treats wounds from human bites. Can be stir-fried with wine, vinegar, or lard according to symptoms. Contraindicated in Yin deficiency with dryness-heat.
For blood deficiency causing obstruction in meridians, this herb can resolve it. For pathogenic factors knotting and stagnating in the collaterals, this herb can unblock the obstruction. It opens joint spaces and unblocks yin orifices, which are its capabilities. To claim it nourishes Yin and tonifies blood is inaccurate.
Turtle Meat: Warm. Stops cold cough, treats bloody dysentery, removes bone and tendon pain.
Turtle Glue: Sweet, neutral. Enters the Foot Shaoyin Kidney Meridian. Anchors fire in the Kidney, consolidates sweat from floating Yang, stabilizes impending Yin collapse, and secures Qi in the Chong and Ren vessels. Combined with *Moutan Cortex* (Danpi) and *Kochia Scoparia Herb* (Difu Zi), it stops dribbling urination. Assisted by *Glehniae Radix* (Beisha Shen) and *Scrophulariae Radix* (Yuanshen), it stops dry cough. To stop cough, stir-fry with *Ostreae Concha* (Muli) powder. To nourish blood, steam with wine until dissolved. Contraindicated in Spleen-Stomach deficiency-cold and cold-slippery seminal emission for both methods.
Turtle Shell is averse to Alum Stone and Calcite. Avoids Mint. Salty, neutral. Enters the Blood aspect of the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian. Treats chronic malaria, removes hypochondriac hardness, dispels lower back pain, treats macules and pustules. Whenever summerheat-pathogen enters the Yin aspect, emerging to combine with Yang causing heat, or entering to combine with Yin causing cold, treatment with this herb will invariably cure. Combined with *Artemisiae Annuae Herba* (Qinghao), it treats bone-steaming. Paired with *Ostreae Concha* (Muli), it dissipates accumulations. Assisted by *Paeonia Lactiflora Root* (Taoren - actually *Paeonia suffruticosa* root bark usually, but here likely referring to Peach Kernel contextually or typo for Taoren/Peach Seed, assuming Peach Kernel based on "Taoren" pinyin usually being Tao Ren, but text says Tao Ren which is Peach Kernel, wait, text says "Tao Ren" 桃仁? No, text says "Tao Ren" 桃仁 is not there, it says "Tao Ren" 桃仁? Let's check source text: "佐桃仁". Yes, Peach Kernel.) ... Assisted by *Peach Kernel* (Taoren) and *Samolus Valerandi Root* (Sanleng - actually *Sparganii Rhizoma*, Sanleng), it treats Ben Tun Qi pain. Mixed with egg white, applied externally to treat yin sores. To dissipate accumulations, stir-fry with vinegar. To treat bone-steaming consumptive fever, process with child's urine. To treat heat pathogens, stir-fry with wine. Suitable for decoction, not suitable for pills. Not suitable for those with cold consumption and mass disorders. Its nature is drying; contraindicated in blood dryness.
Turtle Meat: Cools blood and nourishes Yin, also treats malaria and dysentery. (If salt and soy sauce are not added, but ginger and brown sugar are added, it is called "Bie Tang Soup"; eaten as a soup, dysentery stops naturally.)
Turtle Head: Treats uterine prolapse in women and rectal prolapse in children.
