When suffering from Gu poison (Gu, a traditional concept of venomous parasites or toxins causing severe illness) nearing death, take a lotus leaf (Nelumbinis Folium), secretly place it under the mat where the patient is lying (do not let the patient know), instruct the patient to call out the name of the Gu master, commanding them to withdraw the Gu, and the patient will stabilize.
Apply moxibustion (Moxibustion, a therapy involving burning mugwort on acupoints) three moxa cones (Zhuang, a unit of moxibustion measure) on the tip of the little toe; this is effective, and foreign matter will be expelled. If contracted through drinking alcohol, it will be expelled with the wine and food; if contracted through meat or vegetables, it will be expelled with the meat and vegetables. The patient will recover with miraculous efficacy. All such matter will emerge from the moxibustion wound.
(Lingnan people sometimes introduce toxins into food and drink to harm others. The initial symptoms include chest and abdominal pain, followed by gradual churning and stabbing sensations. After ten days, if the toxin moves upward, it causes chest pain; if downward, abdominal pain.) For toxins located in the upper part, use five fen of Chansfan powder (Vitriol Powder, referring to Alum), dissolve it in hot tea, and use it to induce vomiting to detoxify. For toxins located in the lower part, use two qian of Yujin powder (Curcuma Longa Rhizome Powder), mix with rice water for oral administration, which should cause the expulsion of foul matter. Afterwards, regulate the spleen and stomach using Sijunzi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction) without Gancao (Licorice Root). In one case, swelling appeared suddenly under the ribs, growing as large as a bowl within moments; this was caused by introducing raw toxin. At dawn (Wugeng time), chew raw Moutou Lvdou (Green Bean) to test; if it tastes sweet, it confirms poisoning. Use Shengma powder (Cimicifugae Rhizoma Powder) finely ground, mix with cooled boiled water, and administer six qian orally. Continue for two or three doses. During the period of pain and diarrhea, consume several stalks of Congbai (Scallion White), including roots and hairs, which will reduce the swelling. Subsequently, take Pingwei San (Powder for Leveling the Stomach) for conditioning and supplementation until recovery.
For mild cases characterized by dryness and irritability in the heart, immediately administer fresh duck blood or goose blood, or pour copious amounts of soy sauce or cold water. Vomiting up the opium smoke leads to recovery. Alternatively, grind Baifan (Alum) and Xionghuang (Realgar) together into powder, mix with clear water, and administer; this is also effective. If a large dose is taken and toxicity is severe, the body becomes cold, breath ceases, and death seems imminent. However, if the limbs remain soft, the person is not actually dead but is merely intoxicated and confused due to the potent nature of opium. Place the person in a damp, shady location, pry open the teeth with chopsticks, insert a bamboo chopstick horizontally into the mouth to keep it open, and occasionally pour a cup of cold water. Administering Jinzhi (Human Feces Clear Liquid) is even better. Externally, rub and oscillate cold water over the chest area more than ten times daily. Additionally, use a basin of cold water, scatter the hair into the water to float, and after three to four days, when the odor of opium dissipates completely, the person will revive. (Do not expose to sunlight; once exposed to sun rays, rescue is impossible.) As long as the body does not stiffen or change color, do not rush to bury within seven days. I have seen many saved by this method. Another prescription: frequently administer lamp oil; vomiting leads to recovery (because opium paste disperses upon contact with oil). Only those who took it mixed with wine are difficult to save.
