Feishi (Flying Corpse) refers to a pathogenic factor that wanders through the skin and penetrates the zang-fu organs. Each attack causes stabbing pain, and the condition changes unpredictably. Dunshi (Escaping Corpse) attaches to the bones and muscles, attacking the blood vessels; it is triggered by witnessing funerals or hearing weeping. Fengshi (Wind Corpse) flows into the four limbs, causing pain accompanied by drowsiness and heaviness, triggered by wind and snow. Chenshi (Sinking Corpse) entangles the bones and knots within the internal organs, causing internal swelling in the heart and hypochondrium; attacks result in colicky pain, triggered by cold environments. Zhushi (Pouring Corpse) causes general body heaviness, mental confusion, and frequent faintness, triggered at solar term transitions. All five types of Shijue (Corpse Syncope) syndromes are suitable for treatment with Suhe Xiang Wan (Styrax Pills).
According to Zhu Danxi: When a person presents with reversed coldness of the hands and feet, pruritus cutis (goosebumps), cyanosis and blackening of the head and face, mental trance, or delirious speech, trismus (lockjaw), or coma and somnolence, this belongs to sudden syncope, Feishi, Ke Wu (Guest Malevolence), or Gui Ji (Ghost Strike) causing trismus, and should be treated with Mahuang Tang (Ephedra Decoction). If it is Hanjue (Cold Syncope), characterized by exterior heat and interior cold, there will be diarrhea with undigested food, vomiting after eating, a deep pulse, and cold extremities; this should be treated with Sini Tang (Fried Aconite Decoction). If it is Rejue (Heat Syncope), characterized by abdominal fullness, body heaviness with difficulty turning over, dirty complexion, delirium, urinary incontinence, cold extremities, spontaneous sweating, and a deep-slippery pulse, this should be treated with Baihu Tang (White Tiger Decoction). If a person suddenly becomes immobile, with eyes closed, trismus, aversion to sound, vertigo, and only regains consciousness after a while, this is caused by excessive sweating leading to Qi merging into Blood, with Yang floating upward alone without descending, resulting in Qi stagnation and obstruction. Once Qi moves and Blood returns, Yin and Yang reconnect, and consciousness returns after some time; this condition is called Yumao (Depression and Dizziness) or Xuejue (Blood Syncope), and is suitable for treatment with Baiwei Tang (Cynanchum Paniculatum Decoction) or Cang Gong San (Master Cang's Powder).
If a person suffers from Shijue and does not respond when called, death ensues. If the pulse should be large but is instead small, death ensues.
Yang Yongxing, a member of the Imperial Guard, moved his entire family to avoid disaster. One servant, who had become drunk and failed to evacuate, subsequently suffered from mental confusion and widespread bruising. He was cured immediately after being administered an infusion of Jin Yin Teng (Lonicerae Japonicae Caulis).
A woman suddenly became confused and delirious, with cyanotic swelling on both ankles, knees, and buttocks, unbearable pain, and vocalizations of suffering. She regained consciousness the next day, but the pain persisted. She was cured after taking approximately two liang of Jin Yin Teng boiled in water.
Another woman entered an ancient tomb and developed the aforementioned symptoms. She was cured immediately after being administered Zijin Ding (Purple Gold Pill).
