For this type of illness, the pulse is large and slow. The manifestations include unchanged food intake and normal daily routines, but with occasional episodes of vexatious heat and uncontrolled thirst for drinking water. This is a Summerheat syndrome (Shu Zheng), which is easy to treat; one dose of Zhimu San (Anemarrhena Powder) will suffice for recovery.
If there are symptoms of vexatious heat, fatigue, and anorexia, it indicates that Summerheat Qi has injured the Stomach Qi. Taking warming and middle-jiao harmonizing decoctions will lead to recovery. If Xiangru Yin (Mosla Decoction) or Liuyi San (Six-to-One Powder) and other cold-cooling agents are taken, they may freeze and damage Stomach Qi, often leading to complications such as malaria, dysentery, and diarrhea. One must be cautious.
If Summerheat Qi lodges in the meridians of the Pericardium (Xin Bao Luo), causing delirious speech, vexation, thirst, a desire to drink cold water, scanty and difficult urination, and passage of red watery stools, one should take Ejiao Wan (Donkey-Hide Gelatin Pill) and Danggui Shaoyao Tang (Angelica Sinensis and Peony Decoction) for recovery.
If cold substances are consumed during the summer months, Cold Evil may invade and lodge in the Stomach, causing abdominal pain. In such cases, Jinye Dan (Golden Fluid Pill), Caoshen Dan, Quanzhen Dan, or Laifu Dan should be taken; two consecutive doses will lead to recovery. If purgative cold medicines are used incorrectly, it may transform into fullness in the center and Spleen diarrhea.
If Yuan Qi (Original Qi) is deficient, and cold air enters the abdomen while walking in the morning, causing pain in the heart and abdomen, Jinye Dan or Laifu Dan should be taken.
Generally, when people consume excessive cold foods during summer, regular intake of Jinye Dan, Quanzhen Dan, Laifu Dan, and Baoyuan Dan can naturally harmonize the Spleen and Stomach and prevent dietary injury. However, young and robust individuals should take these only once every five days, lest the heat ascend and attack the eyes.
(The syndrome of Summerheat is originally common. If there is uncontrolled thirst, Zhimu San can cure it in one dose; if there is fatigue and anorexia, warming the middle is indicated; if Summerheat lodges in the Pericardium causing delirium, vexation, desire for cold drinks, scanty urine, and red stools, clearing the Heart and cooling the blood can cure it in one dose. However, contemporary physicians often misdiagnose all internal injuries and deficiency-cold syndromes as Summerheat, recklessly using cold-cooling medicines day and night. By the time the condition transforms into deep yin cold and yang collapse, they still claim it is "Summerheat evil attacking internally," at which point the disease is severe and difficult to reverse. Occasionally, skilled physicians who administer Renshen Fuzi Tang (Ginseng and Aconite Decoction) face obstruction from others. When effective, these physicians shamelessly cover up by saying, "I intended to change my approach anyway, coincidentally matching the patient's mind." When ineffective, slander arises, shifting blame onto Ginseng and Aconite. Uninformed patients and their families inevitably complain. Alas! Alas! Such physicians have lost their conscience. As I possess a warm-hearted nature, I am often slandered by such people. Therefore, I write this to express my indignation.)
