If dietary intake decreases, limbs feel fatigued and weak, and fever occurs in the afternoon, this is due to deficiency of Stomach Qi (Stomach Energy). If daily activities remain normal but there is only a sensation of irritability and heat, this indicates excess heat in the Stomach and abundance of Heart Qi. Taking Qiancao Tang (Madder Root Decoction) will result in recovery within five days.
This condition arises from the depletion of True Qi (Vital Energy), causing blood in the Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel) and Ren Mai (Conception Vessel) to fail to circulate, transforming into pus and water. It may discharge from the umbilicus or from the vagina, dripping continuously; without treatment, it leads to death. Moxibustion on Shimen (CV5) for two hundred moxa cones, combined with administration of Jinye Dan (Golden Fluid Pill) and Jiangfu Tang (Ginger and Aconite Decoction), will lead to recovery. (The umbilicus is Shenque (CV8), connecting above to the Spleen and below to the Kidney; it must not be injured. If pus and water discharge, the Qi of both the Pre-Heaven and Post-Heaven sources will leak out, how can one avoid death?)
Whenever one faints suddenly without an obvious cause, it is due to closure of Stomach Qi; moxibustion on Zhongwan (CV12) will lead to recovery. (Women who are gluttonous and have excessive desires often suffer from this syndrome.)
Excessive bleeding during childbirth, early resumption of sexual intercourse, or premature physical labor can damage True Qi, resulting in Xu Lao (Deficiency Consumption Disease). The pulse is wiry and tight, accompanied by coughing, fever, cold limbs, hemoptysis, or hematemesis. Moxibustion on Shimen (CV5) for three hundred moxa cones, followed by administration of Yanshou Dan (Longevity Pill), Jinye Dan (Golden Fluid Pill), or Zhuru Fen (Semen Siliphii [Milk Thistle Seed] Powder), will reduce symptoms within ten days and bring stability within one month. (For those suffering from Xu Lao with a wiry and tight pulse, the disease is already severe; how much more so for those with excessive bleeding after childbirth! Urgent warm tonification is required, lest it be too late. If one fails to understand this and attempts Yin-nourishing methods, there will be no hope left.)
Children possess Pure Yang (Pure Yang Constitution); their pulses move rapidly, with six to seven beats per respiratory cycle as the standard. A slow pulse indicates cold, and a rapid pulse indicates heat, consistent with adult pulse theory. However, half of pediatric diseases are caused by damage from milk and food. For fever, use Pingwei San (Peaceful Stomach Powder); for vomiting and diarrhea, use Zhenzhu San (Pearl Powder); for headache and fever, suspecting external contraction, use Bichengqie San (Cubeb Powder); for undigested food, use Dingxiang Wan (Clove Pill); for diarrhea, use Jinye Dan (Golden Fluid Pill). (Although children's pulses are indeed faster than adults', the standard should be slightly faster by half to one beat. Six to seven beats per cycle is not a balanced pulse. If a balanced pulse reaches six to seven beats, a rapid pulse would reach eight beats; a pulse reaching eight beats indicates collapse of Qi.)
Excess Wind-Wood energy causes convulsions. Additionally, accumulated heat stored in the epigastrium, causing the Stomach Qi to become muddled and closed, can also lead to sudden collapse and loss of consciousness. First, administer Bixia San (Green Cloud Powder) to induce vomiting of phlegm; subsequently, give Zhimu Huangqin Tang (Anemarrhena and Scutellaria Decoction), or Qingbingzi (Green Cake Pill) or Zhusha Wan (Cinnabar Pill) are all acceptable. If convulsions arise from Spleen deficiency, or occur after vomiting and diarrhea, this is Man Jing Feng (Slow Convulsive Disorder). Moxibustion on Zhongwan (CV12) for thirty moxa cones, followed by Jiangfu Tang (Ginger and Aconite Decoction), will lead to recovery. (Pediatric Ji Jing Feng [Acute Convulsion] and Man Jing Feng [Slow Convulsion] are analogous to Bi Zheng [Closed Syndrome] and Tuo Zheng [Collapse Syndrome] in adult stroke; applying warming, clearing, tonifying, and draining methods appropriately based on accurate diagnosis ensures no errors.)
