Relieves all kinds of vexatious heat, dry mouth, and thirst with desire to drink water. If it is excess heat (Excess Heat), this formula resolves it without damaging the primordial qi (Yuan Qi). If there is fatigue and reduced appetite, it is fever due to stomach deficiency (Stomach Deficiency Fever); cold-natured medicines should not be taken, and the treatment should focus on warming the middle (Warming the Middle Jiao).
Zhimu (Mother Root of Anemarrhena, five qian, stir-fried with salt water, ground into powder) Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger, three slices)
Decoct one sheng of water until six-tenths remains, take warm.
Treats headache, fever with aversion to cold, spontaneous sweating, and generalized body pain caused by dampness in the sixth lunar month (mid-summer).
Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root, one liang) Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome, stir-fried with soil, two liang) Gancao (Licorice Root, stir-fried, five qian)
Grind together into powder. Take five qian per dose, add seven slices of ginger, decoct in water, and take hot.
Treats all types of malaria (Nue Ji). However, malaria should not be forcibly arrested; tonification is appropriate.
Liuhuang (Sulfur, one liang) Cihuang (Realgar, red color from Yinan Mountain, one liang) Pishuang (Arsenic Trioxide, one qian)
Grind into powder, place in a jar, seal tightly with salt mud, air-dry in shade, fire-calcine for the duration of three incense sticks, allow to cool, then retrieve. Form pills using vinegar paste to the size of a Chinese quince seed. Take five pills per dose, swallowed with rice water on an empty stomach. Whenever Arsenic Trioxide is used, cut off the top of a radish as a lid, hollow out the bottom section, insert the arsenic, replace the lid, wrap in paper, and roast over fire until thoroughly cooked but retaining its medicinal nature. Since this pill has already been fire-calcined, radish processing is unnecessary.
When forming pills, the mixture must be ground and blended extremely uniformly. If uneven, the arsenic content may vary; excessive amounts could cause fatal injury.
Treats deficient malaria (Xu Nue) and chronic malaria resulting in spleen and stomach weakness. If the onset was initially caused by injury from cold substances, this formula is also applicable.
Gaoliangjiang (Galangal Rhizome) Ganjiang (Dried Ginger, stir-fried) Caoguo (Black Cardamom Fruit, dehusked and stir-fried, two liang each)
Grind into powder. Take four qian per dose, decoct in water, and take on an empty stomach.
Treats long-standing recurrent malaria with spleen and stomach weakness, characterized by fullness and oppression in the chest, diaphragm, and abdomen; masses (Pi Ku) causing pain radiating from the hypochondrium to the heart; heaviness in the four limbs; fever; diarrhea; and emaciation (Lei Shou).
Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root) Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome, stir-fried with soil, two liang each) Shaoyao (White Peony Root, wine-stir-fried, four liang) Gancao (Licorice Root, stir-fried) Ganjiang (Dried Ginger, stir-fried) Caoguo (Black Cardamom Fruit, dehusked and stir-fried, one liang each)
