Whenever a person suffers from headache that is unresponsive to all medications, it is Kidney Jue (Kidney Reversal). Taking Shigao Wan (Gypsum Pill) or Heixi Dan (Black Tin Elixir) will cure it. This condition often occurs in those who consume excessive alcohol and engage in sexual indulgence.
(The *Classic* states: "Jue Qi ascending to the top causes disease in the head," and also: "When Shaoyin [Kidney] Qi does not reach, Jue occurs." In cases of headache, deficiency of the Kidney is common; using other medications will definitely fail to produce an effect. Only massive warming and tonification is correct. If warming and tonification are ineffective, then only elixirs can help.)
Clinical Case
A patient fell ill due to extreme anger and sorrow. During the day, he was quiet, but at night he was restless and irritable, refusing food. The pulse on the left hand was imperceptible, while the right hand showed a deep and fine pulse. Conventional physicians judged this as a fatal case. I said: "This is Kidney Jue. Cold pathogenic factors have invaded the Spleen and Kidney meridians." I moxa-ized Zhongwan (CV12) with 50 moxa cones and Guanyuan (CV4) with 500 moxa cones. He took Jin Ye Dan (Golden Fluid Elixir) and Si Shen Dan (Four Spirits Elixir) daily. By the seventh day, the pulse returned to the left hand. Shortly after, several sheng [approx. 1-2 liters] of greenish-white pus were passed via stool, and he fully recovered. This was due to severe depletion of True Qi, which ordinary drugs cannot treat; only moxibustion can cure it. (This syndrome requires moxibustion for recovery and elixirs for efficacy. However, many people cannot undergo these treatments, and doctors merely use common herbs, so how can they save lives?)
Some people suffer from impaired Spleen Qi due to irregular diet, vomiting and diarrhea, or taking cooling medicines. This leads to a sallow complexion, emaciation, fatigue in the four limbs, and loss of appetite. Over time, muscles waste away, leading to death with bones protruding. Urgently moxa-ize Mingguan (B9, Extra point) with 200 moxa cones, and take Caoshen Dan and Jin Ye Dan. In severe cases, one must also moxa-ize Guanyuan (CV4). (The root of congenital essence is the Kidney, and the foundation of acquired constitution is the Spleen. If one carefully nourishes and regulates these two zang organs without violating their natural laws, the viscera will remain harmonious, meridians will circulate properly, Ying and Wei [Nutritive and Defensive] Qi will penetrate smoothly, and Blood and Qi will flow freely. How could disease arise? When disease progresses to "Lao" [Chronic Exhaustion/Consumption], it has reached its extreme. Without profound warming and tonification, how can life be sustained? Yu Fanxi arbitrarily established syndromes of Five Lao, using only mild, neutral, or cooling formulas. By printing and disseminating these, he truly harms future generations.)
Humans regard the Spleen as the mother and the Kidney as the root. Excessive sexual activity, alcohol, and sensual indulgence lead to Kidney Lao (Kidney Consumption), causing a dark complexion, dry ears, and weakness in the sinews and bones. Moxa-ize Guanyuan (CV4) with 300 moxa cones, and take Jin Ye Dan (Golden Fluid Elixir) to survive. Delaying treatment renders it incurable.
