The root cause of this disease is the same as edema, both resulting from deficiency and decline of Spleen Qi (Spleen energy), or due to other diseases attacking and damaging Stomach Qi, leading to difficult transformation and transportation, causing abdominal swelling like a drum. The disease is originally easy to treat; however, medical texts often use diuretic drugs, and patients prefer rapid effects, causing mild cases to become severe, severe cases to become critical, and even leading to death.
According to the orthodox methods of the Yellow Emperor: First, moxa the Mingguan (Gate of Life) acupoint for one hundred moxa cones to consolidate Spleen Qi. After fifty cones, one will feel increased urination and descending Qi. Then, moxa the Guanyuan (Origin of the Gate) acupoint for three hundred cones to preserve Kidney Qi. Within five days, peace will be restored. Administer Jinye Dan (Golden Fluid Pill) and Caoshen Dan (Grass Spirit Pill). After symptoms subside, only white rice porridge or steamed buns soaked in mutton broth are permitted. After recovery, continuously take Quanzhen Dan (Complete True Pill) and Laifu Dan (Returning Harmony Pill). For distension, if the pulse is wiry and tight, it is easy to treat; if deep and fine, it is difficult to cure. (If this disease presents with swelling of the four limbs, early warming treatment can still achieve results. If there is isolated abdominal distension with protruding collateral veins, it is difficult to treat. If one can see through everything, regard worldly affairs as floating clouds, and disregard one's own body, safety can be ensured. Secondly, be cautious with daily life, regulate diet, avoid sexual activity, and guard against emotional fluctuations. Emphasize warm and urgent tonification; two or three out of ten may be saved. If the master's pills and moxibustion are used appropriately, success is likely.)
Treatment Case:
One person developed diarrhea from drinking cold wine and eating raw vegetables. Taking cold-natured medicines further damaged Spleen Qi, resulting in abdominal distension. Ordered moxibustion on Guanyuan for three hundred cones. On that day, urination increased, and downward-moving Qi was felt. Another half jin of Baoyuan Dan (Protect Origin Pill) was taken, curing him in ten days. Subsequent intake of Quanzhen Dan prevented recurrence forever.
When water sounds are heard below the abdomen, pills should be taken immediately; otherwise, it transforms into Spleen Diarrhea, which kills most rapidly. The disease of Baozhu (acute violent diarrhea) occurs because excessive consumption of cold and raw food during summer damages Spleen Qi, causing sudden violent diarrhea. If not treated early, Yuan Qi (Original Qi) will be depleted within three to five days. Medical texts often treat it as ordinary conditions. He Jian considered it Fire and used cooling medicines, often costing lives.
Treatment method: One should take Jinye Dan, Caoshen Dan, Pili Tang (Thunderbolt Decoction), or Jiangfu Tang (Ginger and Aconite Decoction). If critically ill, moxa Mingguan for two hundred cones to ensure survival. If moxibustion is delayed, intestinal opening and profuse diarrhea will lead to death. (Spleen diarrhea is neglected by the world and ignored by contemporary physicians, who do not realize it kills most rapidly. Salt merchant Xue Ruliang suffered violent diarrhea at noon and became cold and uncontrollable by dusk. When I examined him, it was already twilight, and both wrist pulses were absent. I said the disease had lost its control and could not be saved. Urgent moxibustion on Guanyuan and heavy dosage of Ginseng and Aconite were administered, but he could not be saved. The master's words are indeed not false.)
Treatment Case:
One person suffered from Baozhu due to worry and thought damaging the Spleen. Jinye Dan and Pili Tang were ineffective because the damage was profound. Moxa Mingguan for two hundred cones. Bowel movements normalized, and Caoshen Dan cured the condition.
