Tonify. Honghua (Carthami Flos), Wujia Pi (Acanthopanacis Cortex), each 1 qian. Decoct in one hu of raw Baijiu (Chinese liquor) for several boils. Drink according to tolerance. Avoid wind and cold; sweating under thick blankets will relieve pain. For bone injuries, add Tubiechong (Eupolyphaga seu Steleophaga), one piece; cure after several doses.
[Prevention of Clamp Injuries] Boil large soap in aged rice vinegar until soft and mashed, add Piao Xiao (Natrii Sulfas), apply overnight. No pain during clamping. If swelling and pain make walking difficult, apply hot tofu mixed with Songxiang (Pini Resina) powder overnight; walking improves immediately, with no aftereffects.
[Finger Clamp Injuries] Zaofan (Ferrum Sulfate), 2 liang; water 4-5 bowls; steam and boil in a clay pot. Fumigate and wash hands. After a while, blood circulation resumes and pain stops, preventing ulceration. Avoid copper and iron vessels. The washing water smells foul overnight. After washing, take the powder for clamp injuries, taken with Niuxi Jiu (Achyranthus Root Wine).
[Beating Injuries] Immediately drink one bowl of Tongbian (Child's Urine) after beating to prevent blood from attacking the heart. Then place hot tofu on the beaten area; the heat steams, and when the tofu turns purple, replace it. Continue until the purple color dissipates and turns pale red. If severely beaten, causing sleeplessness day and night and various symptoms, use 4 liang of clean Mu'er (Tremellae Fructus), stir-fry in a clay pot until charred but retaining properties, and grind into powder. Take 5 qian per dose, mixed with one bowl of good wine. Sit for a while after taking the medicine to allow its action to reach the wound, penetrating outward from the flesh. Intense itching like needle pricks may occur, with occasional bleeding and fluid discharge. Apply plaster; the swelling subsides the next day. If taken 4-5 qian before beating...
[To Prevent Pain from Beating] Wumingyi (Hematites), Ruxiang (Olibanum), Moyao (Myrrha) (de-oiled), Qiuyin (Lumbricus) (cleaned), Ziran Tong (Calamitas), fire-calcined and quenched in vinegar five times, Mubiezi (Semen Strychni) (shelled removed), equal parts. Honey-pill size of tung tree seeds. Take ten pills in warm wine beforehand to avoid pain.
[Plaster for Beating Wounds] Ruxiang (Olibanum), Moyao (Myrrha), Ganyanzhi (Dry Carminous Cinnabar) (each 1.5 liang), Nifen (Calomelas), 5 qian. Grind into powder, add Bingpian (Borneolum Syntheticum), 5 fen, Congbai (Scallion White), ten stalks, and whole sheep marrow ground into mud. Spread on silk and apply. Relieves pain instantly. Yezhuma tender roots (white ones, any amount), washed clean, mashed with salt into mud and applied; miraculous effect, relieves pain without stasis. For unbroken skin, mash Jiucai (Allii Tuberosi Rhizoma) and Congbai (Scallion White), stir-fry hot, apply thickly; replace when cold; miraculous pain relief. For broken skin, Liu Jinu (Artemisiae Annuae Herba) (baked dry and ground), Mabiancao (Verbenae Herba) ground into powder, mix evenly and sprinkle. For ulcers, apply oil fried with Ruxiang (Olibanum), cover with plaster externally. For swelling and pain only, grind Sheng Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), mix with vinegar or urine for application. Daily intake of Baiji (Bletillae Rhizoma) powder, 1-2 qian, taken with rice water is most effective after beating.
[Post-Beating Fever and Abdominal Pain] Due to severe pain from blood stasis at the injury site: Dangguiwei (Angelicae Sinensis Radix Tail), 5 qian; Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) (wine-steamed), 1 liang; Taoren (Persicae Semen) (skin and tip removed), 21 pieces. Decoct in wine, take at dawn. Effective upon purging bloody stasis. (Halve dose for mild cases.)
[Human Bite Injuries] Immediately wash with urine or strong tea to remove gum toxins. (If not washed, redness, swelling, and pain will ensue, potentially fatal over time.) Banbanzhi Lian (Patriniae Herba), collected from shady places, mashed and applied for effect. Guiban (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum), Biejia (Trionycis Carapax) (calcined to ash and ground), mixed with sesame oil for application. Sheng Lizi (Castaneae Chinensis Fructus) (mashed).
[Scalds and Burns] Do not apply well mud or cold water. Heat trapped by cold penetrates to the bone, damaging sinews and vessels, leading to limb contracture. Fear of fire toxin attacking the heart makes it hard to treat. For unconsciousness due to burns, urgently drink two bowls of radish juice. (If no radish, mash and squeeze juice with water.) Or drink one bowl of child's urine to protect the heart; even if dead,灌ing can revive. Externally, apply cold straw ash (any amount, with a little salt) mixed with water to a thin paste, tasting slightly salty. Apply thickly to the wound; replace when hot. Repeat several times to draw out fire toxin into the ash; swelling and pain dissipate and heal. For severe body-wide burning pain, pour cold old wine or distilled liquor over the area, or immerse briefly; re-immerse when dry. For half-body injury, pour wine from a horse trough to disperse fire toxin and relieve pain instantly. Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) powder and Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas) ground fine, mixed with egg white for application; Yinzhu (Cinnabaris) mixed with egg white also relieves pain. Grind Jinmo (Gold Ink) with egg white and apply to the lesion; cover with wet paper soaked in egg white to prevent blistering. Zhu Mao (Porci Huius Pilus) (with hair, calcined) ground fine, add Qingfen (Calomelas) and Baiborsuo (Borax) in small amounts, mix with sesame oil; relieves pain without scarring. Apply real gold leaf densely to the wound; coat with tung oil, or shell powder (from salt marshes is best) mixed with sesame oil; prevents ulceration, relieves pain without scars. A porcelain bottle filled mostly with sesame oil; add Huangshukui Hua (Abelmoschi Hibisci Scorpii Flos) (pick with chopsticks to avoid hand contact); seal tightly. Apply oil thickly to injuries for miraculous effect. Rotten pumpkin stored in autumn/winter in a porcelain bottle becomes juice over time; apply to lesions for pain relief and healing, also treats all unknown swellings and sores. Rotten oranges stored in winter bottles become juice; apply similarly. (Seal these two formulas with wax and bury in the ground; adding Bingpian (Borneolum Syntheticum) 1-2 qian enhances efficacy.) Old tea leaves in a bottle rot over time; apply frequently; relieves pain and prevents ulceration. For all burns, first wash with overnight urine to facilitate healing and prevent ulceration.
[Ulcerated Scalds and Burns] Renzhongbai (Aluminis Ustus) (see method in Throat Diseases section), mixed with tung oil for immediate effect. For rotten, red, painful flesh, roast cooked eggs (any number, remove whites, keep yolks), render oil in a porcelain jar, mix with Hufen (Cerussa) for application; a miracle formula for fresh scalds and burns. Chishizhi (Halloysit Rubra), Hanshui Shi (Aqua Tuffi), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), all ground fine, mixed with cold water for pain relief. For deep ulcers exposing bone, use Baicaoshuang (Fuliginis Massula), 3 qian, and Qingfen (Calomelas), 1.5 qian, ground fine, sprinkled in or mixed with sesame oil for closure.
[Restlessness and Heat from Scalds and Burns] Cure with Xuanmiao Yin (Mysterious Wonder Decoction): Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Tianhuafen (Trichosanthis Radix), Xuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix) (each 2 qian); Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Hei Shanzhi (Gardeniae Fructus) (each 1.5 qian); Dan Zhuye (Lophatheri Folium), 20 leaves. Decoct in water and drink. If mistakenly immersed in cold water, causing fire toxin to enter internally resulting in restlessness, thirst, and constipation: Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Hei Shanzhi (Gardeniae Fructus), Sheng Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (each 1 qian); Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) (sliced and stir-fried), 2 qian; Dengxin (Junci Medulla), 20 strands. Decoct in water and drink.
[Gunpowder Injuries] First soak and wash with urine, then use shell powder (from salt marshes is best), calcined and ground fine, mixed with rotten tea leaves and applied; relieves pain and heals quickly. If gunpowder hits the eyes causing sudden collapse, wash with urine. When pain subsides, repeatedly wash with own urine to restore vision. If accidentally injured by musket ball, boil 8 liang of white honey, add 1 jin of good distilled liquor, drink hot according to tolerance, induce sweat, and rest. The iron ball will adhere to the bedding the next day.
