[Nasal Sinusitis (Bi Yuan)] This is the initial stage of "brain leakage" (chronic purulent rhinitis). It arises because wind-cold pathogens condense and invade the brain gate, interacting with damp-heat in the Taiyang meridian to cause this affliction. Symptoms include a runny nose with clear mucus, or the discharge of yellow fluid, dripping drop by drop, remaining moist for a long time without drying. Prescription: Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix, 1 liang), Cang'erzi (Xanthii Fructus, stir-fried), Xinyiren (Magnoliae Flos, stamen only), Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba) [each 5 qian 5 fen], ground into fine powder. Jiangyuya (Gobiocypris rarus, calcined to preserve carbonized nature and ground fine): Blow a small amount (1-2 fen) into the nostril while the patient lies supine. Then, take Fuling (Poria, 1 liang), grind it fine, mix evenly with the previous powder, and take 3 qian per dose with warm water. If foul-smelling yellow water flows from the nose from time to time, it indicates that insects have entered the brain. Treatment method: Take 3-5 chi of Si Gua Teng (Luffae Caulis) near the root, dry it in the sun, burn until carbonized but preserving efficacy, and grind fine. Take 1 qian per dose, mixed with warm wine, until cured.
[Nasal Congestion] Whether caused by external pathogenic factors or excessive internal fire, use Tongcao (Tetrapanacis Medulla), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), and Paofuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) [each 1 qian]. Grind into fine powder, make pills with honey, wrap in cotton, and insert into the nostril; congestion will resolve immediately. Alternatively, use Shichangpu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma) and Yazaojia (Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus Spina) [each 1 qian], grind fine, wrap in cotton, and insert into the nostril for immediate relief.
[Nasal Polyps] Nasal polyps are generally caused by food stagnation in the stomach and the flow of phlegm-heat. Internal administration of phlegm-resolving agents combined with external treatment can yield rapid results. Method: Use Goudi (Cucumerit Semen, 1 qian) and Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, 1 qian), grind fine, wrap in cotton, and insert into the nostril until cured. Alternatively, take Oujie (Nelumbinis Node, a section with roots), burn to ash while preserving efficacy, grind fine, and blow onto the affected area for immediate effect.
[Nasal Hemorrhoids] Kugua Di (Momordicae Fructus Pedunculus, 4 qian, stir-fried), Gansui (Kansui Radix, stir-fried 2 qian), Kufan (Alumen), Luosike (Concha Viverrae), and Caowu Jian (Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix Apex) [each 5 fen]. Grind all into powder, mix with sesame oil to form a paste. Use one pill-sized portion per application, insert into the nostril to treat the hemorrhoid, causing it to liquefy into foul-smelling fluid. Apply once daily until it naturally sloughs off.
[Nasal Ulcers] Baicaoshuang (Fuligo Silicea, 3 qian, ground fine), taken orally mixed with cold water. Alternatively, Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum, peeled and cored, ground fine) mixed with human breast milk, applied topically. Alternatively, crush fresh peach leaf buds and insert into the nostril for immediate effect.
[Rhynophyma / Rosacea] Liuhuang (Sulfur, boiled three times in tofu, washed clean, 2 qian), Qingfen (Calomelas, 1 qian), Miduoseng (Litharge, 1 qian), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix, 1 qian), and Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum, 5 fen). Grind all into powder, mix with saliva for topical application. For chronic cases that do not heal, use Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) and Puxiao (Natrii Sulfas), grind into fine powder, and apply with saliva. Internal prescription: Kushen (Sophorae Flavescentis Radix) and Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) [each 4 liang of purified powder, mixed evenly], made into pills with wine paste, size of paulownia seeds. Swallow 80 pills after meals with hot tea; cure upon finishing the medicine. Alternatively, use Lianqiao Xin (Forsythiae Fructus Cor) 4 liang, take 2-3 qian per dose, brew as tea and drink until cured. Alternatively, Lingxiaohua (Campsis Grandiflorae Flos) and Shanzhizi (Gardeniae Fructus), equal parts, ground into powder. Take 2 qian per dose, mixed with clear tea, twice daily.
