Indicated for difficult childbirth in women, blood obstruction, amenorrhea, and blockage of the yin and yang qi mechanisms.
This is the copper bow trigger currently used by people. When heated red-hot and immersed in wine, the juice is drunk or applied externally to penetrate the lesion. Its efficacy is superior to that of ancient times due to more exquisite carving and manufacturing techniques.
Salty in flavor, non-toxic. Indicated for ghostly zhu (chronic infectious diseases attributed to supernatural causes), toxic gu (poisonous parasites), and various types of zhu diseases. Produced in Shu Commandery; those resembling gold in color are considered superior.
Currently produced in the Shu-Han region, resembling coarse gold, with sizes and shapes similar to chess pieces. There is also a "copper tooth" similar to this, but it is black in color with a lighter interior, and is not used in medicine. The "gold tooth" is only used in combination with wine preparations, powders, and the Wuzhu Wan (Five Zhu Pills); other formulas rarely require its use.
[Verification] When the gold tooth leaves its source and enters soil or water, it turns black over time and cannot be called a copper tooth. This variety comes from Hanzhong, where gold teeth are found in stone crevices along the banks of rapid streams, retrieved by washing; those internal to the stones retain a golden color, while those washed down from collapsing banks turn black after many years. Areas near the southern mountains, such as Xigou in Maozhou and Weizhou, also produce varieties superior to those from Hanzhong.
Pungent in flavor, warm in nature. Indicated for carbuncles and sores, scabies and pruritus, heat pathogens, malignant ulcers, leprosy-like diseases, necrotic tissue, loss of eyebrows, killing hemorrhoid worms, and removing black moles and polyps. Treats osteomyelitis of the marrow bone. Also known as Ehui (Evil Ash) and Xihui (Xi Ash). Produced in the mountain valleys of Zhongshan.
Zhongshan belongs to Dai Commandery. Currently, stones are found near mountains, appearing bluish-white. After being used to build stoves and burned, pouring water on them generates steam and breaks them down into powder. Its nature is extremely potent; if taken orally with wine, it causes abdominal pain and diarrhea, but it is very effective for treating metal-induced wounds (jin chuang). Colloquially known as Shi'e Cha.
[Verification] *Bielu* records that people use it to treat metal-induced wounds, with significant hemostatic effects. If collected on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month—along with leaves of Artemisia lactiflora, Pueraria lobata, Abutilon theophrasti, Quercus dentata, Rehmannia glutinosa, Paeonia lactiflora, Xanthium sibiricum, and Artemisia annua—and pounded together with calcined iron oxide (duanshi) into dumpling-sized balls, then dried and powdered, it has miraculous efficacy in promoting tissue regeneration for various ulcers.
Pungent in flavor, slightly warm. Indicated for black moles, cloud-like warts, polyps, ulcerative erosion, scabies, and pruritus. Also known as Li Hui (Lycium Ash). Produced in Fanggu river marshes.
This is the yellow ash currently used for laundry, made by burning accumulated mugwort and goosefoot plants. Its nature is potent, with reed ash being particularly strong. To eliminate black moles and warts, mix these three types of ash with water, steam, and apply topically to remove them. Do not use extensively, as it can corrode human skin and flesh.
[Verification] Ash from mulberry wood firewood is most suitable for medicinal use, surpassing Dong Hui (Winter Ash) in efficacy for treating black moles and warts. Boiling adzuki beans with it greatly reduces edema. However, Dong Hui should originally be Lycium ash; other grass ashes are not authentic. There is also Qinghao Hui (Artemisia annua Ash), made by burning mugwort. Ling Hui (Eurya Ash), made by burning...
