Taste: Sour. Nature: Warm, slightly cold. Non-toxic. It primarily treats Qi Long (obstruction of Qi leading to urinary retention), inability to urinate, amenorrhea in women, blood masses (abdominal masses), epilepsy, alternating chills and fever, and promotes the flow of water passages.
Also known as Fu Fan, also known as KT, also known as KT. It grows on the ground in Pinggu, Wei Commandery, and in households. It is collected on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month.
Also known as Shu Fu, implying that rats are often in the Kan (water/trap) position, carrying it on their backs; the current character "Fu" (woman) seems inconsistent with reason. Also known as Shu Gu.
Taste: Pungent. Nature: Slightly warm. Non-toxic. It primarily benefits vision, treats infant fire sores, heat injury from hot pathogens, gu poison, Gui Zhu (a contagious chronic wasting disease), and enhances spiritual clarity. Also known as Ye Guang, also known as Fang Guang, also known as Yi Yao, also known as Ji Zhao. It grows in terraced fields and pools/marshes. It is collected on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month and dried in the shade.
It is transformed from rotting grass and rotten bamboo roots. Initially, it does not yet resemble an insect, but has light under its abdomen. After a few days, it transforms and can fly. Practitioners of arts capture it, place it in wine, let it die, then dry it. It is rarely used by common physicians.

It grows in ordinary soil, harvested in the third lunar month, and dried in the shade.
The white-necked variety is the older one. Take it, break it open, remove the soil, salt it, sun-dry it, and it quickly turns into water. Daoist practitioners use it frequently. For warm diseases with high fever and delirious speech, drinking its juice cures all conditions, similar to the treatment with Huanglong Tang.
