[Song]
Lumps in the neck and cheek are called *Luoli* (Scrofula), while those arising between the chest and hypochondrium are called *Madao* (Marathon). These occur along the pathways of the Foot-Shaoyang and Hand-Shaoyang meridians; if they persist for a long time and become chronic ulcers (*Lou*), they should be eliminated promptly.
[Treatise]
The disease known as *Luoli* is what was anciently referred to as "Nine Types of Leukorrhea/Leakage" (Jiu Lou). Its manifestations vary: those appearing on the neck are termed *Luoli*, while those in the breast and axilla are termed *Madao*. They appear as clustered nodules of varying sizes, accompanied by alternating chills and fever during attacks, with pus and fluid leaking from ulcerated sores. The root of the disease lies within the Zang-Fu organs. Generally speaking, the Liver governs Wild Wolf Leakage, the Stomach governs Rat Leakage, the Large Intestine governs Mole Cricket Leakage, the Spleen governs Bee Leakage, the Lungs governs Ant Leakage, the Heart governs Maggot Leakage, the Gallbladder governs Mayfly Larva Leakage, the Kidneys govern *Luoli* Leakage, and the Small Intestine governs Pulse-Turning Leakage. Another version writes "Lou" as "Xian". Tracing its origin, this condition is mostly caused by disharmony of cold and heat, or irregular diet, leading to stagnation and condensation of Qi and Blood. Chao Yuanfang recorded methods for determining prognosis: ask the patient to roll their eyes back to look at the pupil; if red vessels run vertically through the pupil from top to bottom, death ensues; if they do not penetrate the pupil, the condition is treatable. The general principle of treatment is to dispel wind-heat, soften hardness and dissipate nodules, eliminate phlegm, and descend fire. In this way, swelling subsides and nodules disperse, preventing the condition from progressing to ulceration and leakage.
