The Guixiang San (Cinnamon Fragrance Powder) from *Su Shen Liang Fang* is highly effective in treating spleen and stomach deficiency as well as severe abdominal pain. This formula is recorded in the chapter on "Various Diseases of Women."
(Treating cold stagnation and entrenched coldness, stabbing pain in the heart and abdomen, often located between the umbilicus and lower abdomen, is particularly excellent. Zheng Huan, Chief Clerk of Liang County, transmitted a formula using Zhen Sha (Needle Sand) as follows:
Only add half tael of Sha (Sand), and do not use other medicines.
Zhen Sha (Needle Sand) (4 taels, stir-fried in an iron wok over fire, stirring constantly with a wooden or bamboo stick until smoke ceases, then cooled) Bai Fan (Alum) (half tael)
Sha (1 qian) Fen Shuang (Lead Subnitrate) (half qian)
Grind the above three ingredients—Bai Fan, etc.—into a fine powder, mix evenly with Zhen Sha. Prepare as a single dose. Sprinkle with a few drops of water, mix with a spoon, spread evenly, and apply as a patch on thick skin paper. The patch should be more than 2 cun wide and 4-5 cun long. Apply it to the painful area, or bind it below the umbilicus. If it feels too hot, re-fry it, add other remaining medicines, and it can still be used.)
Treating spleen and stomach weakness, kidney qi deficiency, poor appetite, belching with acid regurgitation, stabbing pain in the umbilical and abdominal region like pounding, intestinal gas pain, and nausea after drinking alcohol. It benefits the spleen and kidneys and is especially suitable for those who are emaciated and weak after serious illness. Professor Zhang of Hanyang added this formula:
Chuan Jiao (Sichuan Pepper) (half tael, remove seeds and closed pods) Lao Sheng Jiang (Old Ginger) (2 taels, finely ground) Hou Po (Magnolia Bark) (remove rough bark) Huixiang (Fennel) Qing Yan (Green Salt) (Sea salt is also acceptable; place the above five herbs in a porcelain jar, soak in water appropriately, and boil slowly until dry; each herb should weigh 1 tael) Da Chuan Wu (Aconitum Carmichaelii Dehancht) Fu Zi (Prepared Aconite Root) (remove skin and navel tips from these two, cut into dice-sized pieces)
(Soak in rice-washing water overnight. Grind all into a fine powder. Use vinegar paste to form pills, sized like sophora seeds. Take 30 pills per dose, administered with warm wine or salted water, on an empty stomach or before meals.)
Treating spleen accumulation, abdominal distension like a drum, floating blue veins, and inability to sit or lie comfortably. Formula from Palace Envoy Hua.
Select Ding Xiang (Clove) Mu Xiang (Costus Root) Chen Xiang (Agarwood) Bing Lang (Areca Seed) Qing Pi (Citrus Reticulata Green Peel) (remove white pith) Chen Pi (Citrus Reticulata Mature Peel) (remove white pith) Suo Sha Ren (Amomum Fruit) Peng E Zhu (Curcuma Phaeocaulis Rhizome) (processed) Qu Pi Qian Niu (Pharbitis Seed) (peeled) Cao Guo (Black Cardamom) (each 1 tael) Rou Dou Kou (Nutmeg) (baked wrapped in flour) Fen Shuang (Lead Subnitrate) (each 1 qian) Bai Fu Ling (Poria Cocos) (remove black skin) Ren Shen (Ginseng Root) (each half tael) Suan (Garlic Bulb) (appropriate amount)
Grind the above into a fine powder. Grind raw and cooked garlic finely, squeeze out juice through raw silk cloth. Immediately mix the powder with garlic juice to form pills, sized like sophora seeds. Take 5-7 to 15 pills per dose, taken after meals with light salted water. Avoid salty, sour, fish, vinegar, tea, soy sauce, pickled foods, chicken, duck, raw/cold foods, and offal from horses, cattle, etc. Consume only plain white congee for 100 days.
