Zheng Jianpan (Official Title), whose name was Benzhong, stated:
Take one Mu Gua (Chaenomeles fruit) from Xuanzhou. Cut off the lid with a bamboo knife, remove the seeds and pulp, insert Wu Zhu Yu (Evodiae Fructus) inside, replace the lid, and secure it with a bamboo skewer. Steam until cooked.
Take equal parts of Jiahe San (Add Grain Powder) and Sizhu San (Four Pillars Powder) fine powders, mix them evenly, and decoct and take according to standard methods.
Zhu Suoyi (Person Name), a fortune teller in Shaoxing, whose name was Fu, suffered greatly from this disease (Xiao Ke / Wasting-Thirst). Physicians only instructed him to take Jiahe San, which proved ineffective over time. Prime Minister Ge taught him this method, and he recovered immediately!
Treating Spleen dampness, characterized by edema of the face, eyes, and limbs, and difficulty in urination.
Da Fu Pi (Arecae Pericarpium), Fu Ling Pi (Poria Peel), Chen Ju Pi (Aged Tangerine Peel), Sheng Jiang Pi (Ginger Peel), Sang Bai Pi (Morus Root Bark).
Grind the above five herbs into coarse powder. Take three large qian per dose, add one and a half lamps of water, decoct to seven-tenths volume. Take three to four times a day, at any time. It acts swiftly. Long-term use requires avoiding greasy foods; absolutely do not take purgative or diuretic drugs that drain water. Some say adding Wu Jia Pi (Acanthopanacis Cortex) is also acceptable, as it aims to eliminate edema through the urinary pathway. Chen Shide said that Yao Zida and Liu Hengshu, fellow students at the Imperial Academy, both suffered from this disease with alarming severity. After taking this prescription, they were relieved!
This method was bestowed by immortals.
Use natural juice of Dong Gua (Winter Melon) mixed with Da Mai Mian (Barley Flour) to make food.
Shang Lu Gen (Phytolaccae Radix) (Use the red variety. Pound it until soft and apply to the center of the umbilicus. Secure tightly with silk cloth. The disease will exit via small urine. There are two types of Shang Lu. The white variety is unusable.)
My fourteen-year-old brother's wife once used this method and it was effective.
Zhi Qiao (Aurantii Fructus) four liang, remove the pulp, cut into large pieces about two fingers wide, divided into four portions. One liang stir-fried with Cang Zhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) one liang until yellow, then discard the Cang Zhu; one liang stir-fried with Luo Bo Zi (Raphani Semen) one liang until yellow, then discard the Luo Bo Zi; one liang stir-fried with Gan Qi (Laccaae Resina) one liang until yellow, then discard the Gan Qi; one liang stir-fried with Hui Xiang (Foeniculi Fructus) one liang until yellow.
Take the processed Zhi Qiao and grind into fine powder. Use the original stir-fried herbs (Cang Zhu, etc., four flavors) with two bowls of water, decoct to one bowl. Remove dregs, boil flour paste to form pills, size of Wutong seeds (Cercidiphylli Fructus). Take 30 to 50 pills per dose after meals, washed down with rice drink.
Xiao Ke (Wasting-Thirst) Jiu Ju (Alcohol Jaundice)
Jie Yingchen from Meishan was seven chi tall, had a robust appetite and drink, and was a free-spirited man. Suddenly he contracted Xiao Ke (Wasting-Thirst), drinking several dou of water daily, eating double his usual amount, and urinating frequently. He took Xiao Ke medicines for over a year, but the condition worsened daily. Believing death was inevitable, he prepared his coffin and bedding and entrusted his son to others. In Shu, there was a good physician, the son of Zhang Gongyin (name forgotten), who cured this disease. Upon examining Yingchen’s pulse now, the Spleen pulse is extremely hot, while the Kidney qi is not deficient. This must be due to excessive consumption of fruits and alcohol. Heat resides in the Spleen, hence the excessive eating and drinking. [The text implies internal heat from unripe wine brewing]. Inside houses where wine is brewed improperly, using wooden structures, brewing under the house is also inadvisable. Therefore, these two items are used as medicine to remove the toxicity of raw fruits and wine" (Zhi pronounced 'xunli qie', Gou pronounced 'ju'). Because its fruit resembles bird milk attracting nests, colloquially misnamed Ji Ju Zi, also called Lai Han Zhi Tou Gai, taking similarity in shape. It tastes like cow's milk, children like to eat it. In the Wood category of Ben Cao (Compendium of Materia Medica), it is recorded as Zhi (pronounced 'zhi ju').
