The prescription transmitted by Elder Fa Yi of Changyuan is the same as that of Huang Weize from Pingjiang.
Take equal parts of Yingzhao Huanglian (Coptis chinensis with sharp claws) and Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus), stir-fry them together on a new tile until the Evodiae Fructus emits fragrance, turns black and cooked, then discard the Evodiae Fructus. Grind the Coptis chinensis into fine powder, take 2-3 qian mixed with warm wine on an empty stomach; rice water may also be used.
Another prescription, transmitted by Zhang Deming.
Take Hunsun Jiang (Dried Ginger) in any amount, burn it until it retains its nature (charred but not ashed), grind into powder, and take with rice water.
For chronic cases that do not heal, use the salt-carrying prescription of Zou Mingfu.
Take one clove of garlic, cut off the top to serve as a lid, insert one unshelled Dadou (Crotonis Fructus / Tiglii Semen) into each clove, replace the lid, wrap tightly in two or three layers of wet paper, and simmer over low heat. Take 20 pills made from this mixture swallowed with rice water on an empty stomach.
Another prescription: Take equal parts of Wumei Rou (Mume Fructus pulp) and Sheng Gan Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix prepared fresh), mix with refined honey to make pills the size of Sophora seeds. Take 5-7 pills at a time with rice water, without restriction on timing.
Another prescription: Burn Chaye (Tea leaves) into black ash, sieve until extremely fine, add a small amount of Muxiang (Moschus), and take with glutinous rice drink on an empty stomach.
Another prescription: Take Wubeizi (Galla Chinensis) in any amount. Take one crucian carp weighing about 4-5 liang, remove intestines, scales, and gills, place the medicine inside the fish belly, put into a sealed jar, fire-roast until smoke almost ceases, take out, grind into fine powder, and take with warm wine.
Another prescription: Take Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) and Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix) in equal parts, grind into fine powder, and take mixed with Lacha (aged tea).
I personally witnessed a woman who took this prescription and achieved immediate effect.
Eat Mi Zhi Luobo (Honey-fried Radish) freely.
Baiyao Jian (Perforate Fruit Tea Stone) 1 liang (half charred, half raw, ground finely).
Mix these ingredients thoroughly, form pills using soft rice, size of Sophora seeds. Take 30 pills per dose, delivered with rice water.
If stool resembles slices of pig liver, decoct Sishun Yinzi (Four-Smooth Drink) and take Zhuche Wan (Park-Rest Pill). The monk Baojun suffered from this condition and was cured after one dose.
For long-standing non-healing cases.
Di Yu (Sanguisorbae Radix) (cleanly washed, remove rootlets and rhizome nodes).
Grind and sieve into fine powder, bind with glutinous rice paste to make pills the size of mung beans. Take 30 pills per dose with rice water, three times daily.
Transmitted by Zhang Dejun, Tax Supervisor, claiming to be the prescription of Duke Wei of Zhang.
Xiang Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) ground into fine powder, taken with rice water.
"Bo Zhai Bian" states: Hemorrhoids, Changfeng (Intestinal Wind), and Zangdu (Visceral Toxin) are essentially the same disease. It is extremely difficult to find effective medicines because the etiologies differ. Even good medicines cannot guarantee efficacy if they are not targeted to the specific disease. Ordinary people suffer from visceral bleeding due to excessive alcohol and sexual indulgence, or irregular diet; this is called Fengdu (Wind Toxin). Monks and ascetics often suffer from this due to prolonged sitting and poor dietary habits leading to stagnant qi; this is called Zangdu. When Wang Huanzhi served as Prefect of Shuzhou, he suffered from continuous lower bleeding. Chen Yifu, a Court Discussion Official in the commandery, advised him to collect Cebaiye (Platycladi Cacumen) according to the seasons—for example, eastern branches in spring, southern branches in summer—burn them to ash, mix with water, and take twice for a cure. After obtaining this prescription, while serving in Gan, I used it to treat Wu Lingheng, Deputy Director, with immediate effect. Chen Yi, a Doctor and subordinate official of the Surveillance Commissioner, came to inquire about my illness. Wu Lingheng told him that he recovered using Duke Chen's pill formula. Dr. Chen frowned and said, "My ancestor still insisted on using Cebaiye (Platycladi Cacumen) for best results." Huichan, Zen Master of Daochang, said, "For monks, this might be difficult to use; moxibustion on the spine (Pingli Liang Jigu) would be better."
My cousin Liu Xiang served as a clerk in Yan Prefecture. I visited him and stayed for a drink, surprised by his emaciation. Upon asking, he replied, "Last year, Zangdu flared up for half a month. I believed I would certainly die. I obtained a medicine, took it, and have had no suffering since." When asked what medicine, he refused to say. After persistent questioning, he finally said, "It is something on this table," referring to Ganshi (Dried Persimmon). He burned it to ash and drank it with water, taking two doses. "Bencao" states: Baishi (White Persimmon) treats Changpi (dysentery/intestinal disorders), resolves heat toxins, and dissipates old blood. Those suffering later should seek it out. "Suwen" mentions that Changfeng leads to hemorrhoids. The son of Zeng Maozhao, Assistant Judge, suffered from this when he was over ten years old. All Changfeng treatments such as Di Yu were ineffective. He found this prescription in a book, used it once, and was cured. This refers to dried persimmon ash. Zeng Maozhao was my colleague in Hefei and told me this personally!
