Most effective for treating dysentery with red and white discharge (Chibai Li) as well as watery diarrhea. This is a prescription from Tang Zhubu, Magistrate of Hefei County, Luzhou.
Paozhu Zi (Cibotii Rhizoma, one liang, stir-fried until fragrant and cooked through) Ying Su Ke (Papaveris Pericarpium, four liang, remove the internal septum, top calyx, and stalk, dry-roasted on a new tile)
The above two herbs are ground into a fine powder, mixed with refined honey to form pills the size of a marble. Take one pill per dose, dissolve it in one jin of water, add two slices of fresh ginger and one jujube, decoct until only seven-tenths of the liquid remains. For children, divide the dose into four parts.
Applicable regardless of whether the dysentery is red or white. According to Zhang Wangzhong, Canyi (Consultant).
The official bureau's Er Jiang Wan (Two Ginger Pill) does not use rice paste as a binder but uses pig bile to form the pills. Administer according to standard methods, taken down with rice soup, on an empty stomach or before meals.
Treats all types of dysentery, regardless of red or white coloration. Even if defecating one or two hundred times a day, relief occurs after just one dose, and recovery follows after two or three doses. Prescribed by Wei Bu:
Ying Su Ke (Papaveris Pericarpium, remove upper and lower calyces and the internal septum, slice, stir-fry with honey until reddish, weigh net weight) Hou Po (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, three jin each, remove rough bark, weigh net weight, soak in ginger juice overnight, roast until the ginger juice is completely absorbed)
Grind the above herbs into a fine powder. Take two or three qian per dose, mixed with rice soup. Avoid cold, raw, greasy foods, fish, and toxic substances for three days. The prescription passed by Tang Shouzi, Tongpan (Assistant Prefect), is identical to this one and claims to be extremely effective!
"Yijian Jia Zhi" records that Chancellor Yu was summoned from Quzhou. On the journey, he contracted dysentery due to exposure to summer heat. For a month, he dreamed of a rhymed medicinal formula on a wall. Reading it, he prepared a decoction accordingly; taking it brought peace and comfort. Other treatments would have been major errors by physicians. Following this formula led to his recovery.
Treats vomiting and diarrhea caused by Huoluan (Cholera-like syndrome). As long as a trace of Stomach Qi (Vital Energy of the Stomach) remains, administration of this medicine will invariably restore life.
Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, remove the white pith) Huo Xiang Ye (Agastaches Herba, remove soil impurities)
Equal parts of the above, made into coarse powder. Take five qian per dose, with one and a half jin of water, decoct until seven-tenths remain. Take warm, at any time.
Jiang Qianpan stated: There is a shop in Lin'an that specializes in selling this medicine.
Huo Xiang Ye (Agastaches Herba) Wu Yao (Linderae Radix) Xiang Fu Zi (Cyperi Rhizoma, stir-fried, half liang each) Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, two cun and a half, roasted)
Make the above into a coarse powder. Decoct in one large jin of water until seven-tenths remain. Take warm. It is very excellent!
