It is said that Heart disease encounters Geng days, Liver disease encounters Xin days, Spleen disease encounters Yi days, Lung disease encounters Ding days, Kidney disease encounters Ji days, Small Intestine disease encounters Ren days, Large Intestine disease encounters Bing days, Stomach disease encounters Jia days, Gallbladder disease encounters Geng days, and Bladder disease encounters Wu days. These are all cases where the righteous Qi of the respective Zang organs is constrained on those specific days, leading to a decline in Qi, which is why needling the disease is difficult to cure.
Sun Luo (Collaterals) are located within the muscle layers, with blood flow emerging from branch vessels. Sun Luo refers to small collaterals, meaning the branching parts of the collaterals, running between the fenrou (muscle intervals). If blood stagnates and remains, it should be removed by needling, without regard for the points where meridians intersect.
Chest stuffiness, fainting, or yunzhen (needle syncope) occur due to meridian deficiency; thus, tonifying the collaterals is necessary. The *Ben Lun* states: If practitioners deeply understand the movement of Qi and Blood, select acupoints accurately, and apply tonification and reduction techniques appropriately, needle syncope and fainting will certainly not occur. Alternatively, in hurried situations, individuals who fear needling may suffer injury from excessive needling. Those with robust constitution will recover as their Qi circulates naturally, while those with timid constitutions require immediate rescue and treatment.
For example, if needling the Liver Meridian affected by Qi dynamics, one should tonify the collateral of Ququan (LR8), the He-Sea point of the Liver Meridian. If needling the Liver Collateral affected by Blood dynamics, one should tonify the meridian of Ququan (LR8) of the same channel. Upon insertion of the needle, the patient revives, with effects akin to bringing the dead back to life. All other cases follow this principle.
Pain indicates excess, itching indicates deficiency; reducing the child and tonifying the mother are key guidelines. Regarding the excess and deficiency of diseases: itching signifies deficiency, while pain signifies excess. Needling methods state: "Tonify the mother in deficiency, reduce the child in excess." For instance, in Liver Excess, reduce Xingjian (LR2), the Ying-Spring point of the Liver, which belongs to Fire (the Child). In Liver Deficiency, tonify Ququan (LR8), the He-Sea point of the Liver, which belongs to Water (the Mother). Generally, needling only utilizes the Five Elements attributes of the Jing-Well, Ying-Spring, Shu-Stream, Jing-River, and He-Sea points of the respective meridian, applying the Mother-Child tonification and reduction method, which is the essential principle.
Reflecting on the swift efficacy of ancient sages, nothing surpasses the *Zhen Jing* (Classic of Acupuncture). Is it difficult for modern people to cure diseases through medical methods? Ancient treatments of diseases specifically discussed acupuncture and stone therapy.
