The *Qianjin Fang* (Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) records: If one intends to perform acupuncture or moxibustion, one must first know the auspicious and inauspicious days of the current year (Xing Nian), as well as the location of the "Ren Shen" (Human Spirit, referring to key areas where Qi and Blood circulate). Treatment is permissible as long as it does not conflict with these taboos. Therefore, men should avoid the Chu (Remove) day, and women should avoid the Po (Break) day.
Men should avoid Wu days, women should avoid Si days, and You days are taboo for the Spirit. There are monthly taboos, hourly taboos, and seasonal taboos. The Ren Shen is divided into twelve sections, with nine additional sections of collateral-passing Ren Shen, along with various miscellaneous taboos. Among the collateral-passing concepts are those known as Xue Zhi (Blood Branch) and Xue Ji (Blood Taboo). Any physician must be aware of these principles.
